Thread: aba brakes on a mk2?

    1. 08-18-2008 11:32 PM #1
i have a stock mk2 gti 8v with 9.4 vented brakes... now what will i need to upgrade to aba 10.1 brakes?

There should be info in the DIY at the top of the page. I think you need the spindles that attach to the control arm and to the shock assembly and IIRC they fit right up.

You can also use the rear axle for 4-wheel disc, but it's just an 8v. I have all OEM stuff all around.

GLI, Passat 16v, 4 cyl. MK3 (Both GTI & Jetta) all have the same brakes.

might as well get mk3 lower tabs with mk3 tierods, that would widen your car a bit at the same time.

you would need a'lot more than that to widen your stance...

      whats a mk3 lower tab?

Anyways you need calipers and carriers, I believe that the knuckles from 9.4s will work with the 10.1 carriers. If you see a 10.1 set up youll understand what youll need. If Im wrong about 9.4s working with 10.1 carriers than youll need the 10.1 knuckles too....IVe got the whole set up if youre that interested. If you want to widen the stance you need the longer axles, control arms, and tie rods.

do upgrade from 9.4's to 10.1's (as on late model a2 gli's and aba a3's) you will need:
      knuckles(w/ wheel bearings)
      calipers
      caliper carriers
      rotors
      pads
      hardware
      19mm tierod end

it is a very easy swap if you have a donor car avail. to you...
