Made a deal on a barely fired Yugo AK-47 for $600 with 6 mags; sound about right? Has the Grenade firing bit and a parkerized finish that I'd say is close to how nice my AR was when new. Should take delivery next week or so.

Who made that AK? If its Century - you paid a little too much, if not - probably a decent deal. Grenade firing bit? That appears to have the normal 74 brake on it.

yeah, she's a century. I've seen prices in the upper $400s and around what I paid so I wasn't really too sure on pricing. What should I have paid? It did come with 6 mags: 1 metal and 5 Tapcos and 20rnds of Remington 7.62x39 Express Rifle ammo (since he didn't have any AKs to use it with anymore). He even gave me the Tapco sight adjustment tool; don't know what it's worth.

I like the look of the 74 brake but he gave me the slant brake so I can always try that if I'm bored.

I meant it has the grenade gas block that flips up blocking off the gas from cycling the bolt. I'm new to the AK47 terminology. Figured out it's an M70B1.

and here's a question: What's the deal with the rear sight and the part that flips up and down? Not how the entire sight can be folded forward...just this small piece on the very rear that appears to have a wider "window/peep". It doesn't seem as though it could serve any purpose since it doesn't effect the view to the front sight at all.

on the Zastava weapons that is for the night sights. there is a flip-up front and rear set.

ooooh, looking at it now I can see two dots that surround the peep window and I just found the front flip up sight! They're just dimples without anything in them, though. Thanks Obin! Mine is a Zastava. Are all Century Intl. AKs made by Zastava or is that just the Yugos?

I'm a little bummed that I can't add the TWS Rail that replaces the rear leaf sight and attaches at the rear but I'm really digging the way the top cover lock button can be locked into place by the button the left side of the receiver. Unnecessary but neat.

BLK - the rifle is worth every cent if it shoots and functions flawlessly. Tapco mags are junk except for range work. Get some good metal mags, or if you can stomach the cost US Palm AK30's are apparently amazing, as well as Bulgarian 30-rounder Polymer magazines (www.k-var.com)

Why can't you use the TWS rail? I have one NIB I'd sell you if it works -but if it is prohibited by something on your rifle, then forget it!

US Palm is also releasing a pistol grip in the near future which is supposed to be good as well.

Reading the AR15 thread, everyone was whining for a Yugo version. Looks like on TWS's website it doesn't say it won't fit the Yugo and I can see that the lock simply screws into the buttstock. I don't have any buttstock screw so I assume I'd simply need to drill and tap a location for the screw?

I would contact them to make sure. Surely a phone call or email wouldnt hurt. Yugos are a different beast, stamped or milled. My friend at work jokes about how Yugos just had to be different with almost everything. But even the receivers of the stamped Yugos are tough as hell.

your sights might have the glowing dots covered for some reason. if there is nothing in them at all then someone removed them.

the Zastava PAP 59/66 is a very overbuilt gun. i love them way more than any of the other Simonov variants. they are the only SKS variants that can launch grenades and that means they have a very beefy receiver and barrel.

as for the rear sight i have a PAP 59/66 with the rare Molot scope rail properly attached to the receiver. i'll take some photos and put them up soon.

Well, BLK - if you do some research and figure it out, let me know. I'll sell you the TWS rail at discount to the purchase price. It has the flip-up rear sight add also.

And go get some proper magazines!

I shot them an email asking about adapting their mount to the Yugo.

I want to own that rail so bad but the more I look at the way the Rail mounts up the less likely it looks like it'll work:

The Yugo has a long bolt that threads lengthwise into the trunnion instead of the stock having two screws coming in from above like your typical AK. So having that bolt through the entire length of the stock would make it difficult to adapt the TWS mount by simply installing a threaded insert. It would have to be a pretty short screw and you'd only get one chance to not f|_|ck it up while drilling. Not to mention trying to make a flat spot on top for it to sit on.

Unless the TWS guy's make a Yugo version it seems, without major modification, I'm out of luck.

I really just wanted to run a nicer rear sight than the stock leaf one and at a longer sight radius. Maybe I should shoot the dang thing before I starting talking about what I "need" lol

Sure wish this weekend wasn't the one I had to work. Thems the breaks in the military, I guess.

Does anyone in here own a M16? I thought I remember a guy who has a couple H&K sear packs and a M16.

I think i am going to consolidate my collection a buy a M16. I can get 22lr and 9mm uppers and also shoot rifle calibers out of it.

The M11 limits my selection to only 9mm. I am going to post a few guns for sale and see where I am at $$$ wise. I might get an original colt, but will probably settle for a conversion. It really doesn't matter to me as it will be shot frequently.

Hey Elbows, PM me what you'd like to get for your TWS mount. The owner emailed me and said many yugo owners are milling a flat section on the stock and drilling for a screw so it's possible.
