I haven't had any time to get out for a serious ride but in the few 10-15 minute spins I have done I don't notice anything wrong with the seat post. It adjusts fine and locks in place with zero effort.

Probably not the place to show off this kind of ride, but here's the bike I use most of the time nowadays:

    Note the 700x33 tires.

    Kind of dirty, too.

It's a beautiful frame, buy there's some serious clashing with the components going on in terms of design.

The frame isn't vinatage era and I ride it a lot, so there's no reason to try to mimic a vintage bike. Furthermore, if you go to NAHBS, the lugged handbuilts are almost always displayed with a modern group. In my eye, there's no "clash" between an ornate lugged frame & modern components, because I've seen a lot of bikes with that mix. (Kind of like a Singer Porsche).

On the other hand, if you're referring to the black stem & large ring, I agree they clash; but I built it up with stuff I had lying around. They are going to be replaced soon with a silver Ritchey stem and a silver Shimano 46 tooth ring.

I like the mixture of traditional and modern. Other examples:

    Here's my current road stable

    Seven Resolute SLX...

And "Rusty". I went to frame school over the winter and built this. It was a lot of fun!!

I powdered it a faux-rust. Came out really cool IMO.

Haven't actually done that yet, this could get interesting:

    * Got the Mountaincycle Virtue frame (W/ Easton carbon stays), Carbon fork, Cane Creek headset, RaceFace seatpost, Cane Creek calipers and a pair of bars that wound up on my SS for $109 shipped, but I felt so bad after I saw it was ~$70 to ship it to me, I paypalled the guy another $41 to make it an even $150 shipped.
    * The 6500 Ultegra brifters were $85 this past fall off craigslist
    * The FSA omega bars and Truvativ stem were $40 on ebay, a take off from some other bike
    * The Cane Creek Cronos wheels came on a local craigslist sourced motobecane cross bike with a bastardized mix of campy veloce, shimano and sram that I scored for $400 (ad link), I figure they're good for $150 of value. Included in this preice are the Panaracer tires, nameless tubes, stock skewers and SRAM 970 cassette.
    * The 5500 105 deraileurs were $40 for the pair used (craigslist)
    * Truvativ Rolleur Carbon Cranks, Rings and BB were $63 shipped, another ebay purchase.
    * The Flite Saddle was a recent ebay score for $43
    * The Shimano PRO bar tape was maybe $10 off cambria bike.
    * Jagwire cables and housings were essentially free- traded volunteer time for them at the local coop
    * Old Shimano (look built) PD-1056 Pedal were traded for- I gave a kid at the coop a pair of mountain toe clip pedals I paid maybe $15 for for them. $8 for cleats.
    * Chain is a SRAM 971 I just put on, got for like $23 on pricepoint.
    * The generic cages and Cateye computer I had kicking around, but let's say $30 for all those as well.

    Let's tally it up-
    $150 Frame/calipers/bars/post
    $85 STIs
    $40 Bars & stem
    $150 Wheels/tires/tubes/cassette
    $40 Deraileurs
    $63 Cranks
    $43 Saddle
    $10 Bar tape
    $23 Pedals/Cleats.
    $23 Chain
    $30 Cages/computer
    _______
$657 with a generous price on the wheels. Add another $15 for cables if you really want to split hairs. Other than the bottles, that's EVERYTHING pictured. Some would argue pedals, cleats, cages and computer don't count, I can't say I agree with that.

There's no huge secret to getting a nice bike for cheap, it's just a lot of patience, enough spare cash to jump on a good deal and the knowledge to identify one when you see it plus the mechanical knowhow to put it together yourself. It's all 5+ year old technology, but it rides nice- there's not an itch I'm feeling that a new bike could scratch for three times the money I have in this thing.

I love this bike, some ride pics-

BBK, they're standard reach FSA Gossamers on there. Actually, I think they're Sram Force in that picture.

Holden, I went to Brew in North Carolina. It was a great experience

One day after the 2012 Ontario Ride to Conquer Cancer (227 km from Toronto to Niagara Falls) I decided it was time to add to my collection. For the RTCC, I used a Giant TCX2 cyclocross. Picked up this Cannondale R700 today...

Best thing about this ridiculously awesome bike is clearly the platforms lol. Built one of these up in our shop a little while back along with a scalpel ultimate. Incredible machines.

I would love to get a high-end Cannondale someday. My CAAD8 proved tough and capable on my last 545 mile tour!

Today, I bought a set of Forte Titan wheels with blade spokes. They are very light and looked great. So I tried it on with the white tires and here's how it looks.

Had this for a while until Cannondale decided they wanted it back. It was a CAAD9-5 bike with a Shimano 105 Drivetrain. Reason they wanted it back? they mispelled their own brand name on the downtube.

That is pretty comical. Did you keep it or allow them to fix their made on a Monday goof?
