Nice trek! Are those Mavic wheels? They remind me of a set I had with tubulars years ago. Light but a PITA!

Did I already post this here?

My 2009 Cannondale Six with Shimano 105s. Bought it unused last year from the LBS with a nice discount.

So, I got a new bike this past weekend, and it is my first road bike.

    2012 Salsa Casseroll

I only have ~50 miles on it or so, but I'm really enjoying it. I hadn't even really ridden a road bike before I got this one, and it is such a different ride than my other bike (Trek Allant). I know, you guys are all like, "OBVIOUSLY." Anyway, I love it.

New Bike Day! Fresh out of the box not even ridden at the time of the pic. Took it out for a brief ride to make adjustments and get to know her better. My first carbon frame and and I love it.

    Before (1998):

After (Labor Day closeout sale 2012, on a 2011 bike):

...always been afraid to go carbon, but I would have kicked myself for not taking advantage of the deal. Been out for (2) rides...still getting used to SRAM, and "compact". Having never ridden carbon, I thought the ride would have been abrasive and jarring, but surprisingly, it is fairly supple. However I'll be switching out the 12-27 for an 11-23, cuz the 34/27 was just too weird for me. I'm so out of date.

^^Nice! My LBS just picked up Focus to replace an outgoing line of Ridley's they won't be carrying going forward. One of Focus' TT bike pops up on Chainlove all the time, soooo tempting.

FWIW, I haven't been able to find anything negative about Focus, save for one review that said that the Izalco's steering was "twitchy/nervous". I found it twitchy as well on a test ride at the shop. However, like the review, the handlebars were setup weird (i.e. the stem was upside down, and the hoods were angled upwards). It became more stable with a longer stem, and the pictured configuration, but as guessed, I'll get a wider handlebar for a little more control.

I was on the fence between this, and building another Colnago Master, but the price on the Izalco "bike", with SRAM Red (Force crank/ft. dr.) was a grand less than the Colnago "frame". Happy with it so far...felt less fatigued after my 40mi. ride on the Izalco than my 26mi. ride on the Master. I'm thinking it has more to do with the compact than the frame though.

Whatever size you think you are for a road frame, you arent- great bikes, but, other than the cinelli, they don't fit you.

Built from spares and cheap ebay purchases. Hence the rather unusual mix of parts and the challenging looks.....

I'm still working out how to get it just right but it is very close - I rode it 52 miles yesterday...

Oh and yes at the moment it is a 9spd
The above post is probably dripping in sarcasm.

Many of them are French... French fit philosophy revolved around being on the biggest bike you can stand over, and keeping the seat low.

Sure, but a proper french fit still has like 4 fingers of post showing, not a seatpost slammed to the hilt.

those bikes are all probably 58 or bigger, at 5'9", you should be the next size down.

    -2012 5.9? NICE!!!

I've been tempted to upgrade my '11 to Di2... might need to sell a couple of bikes first though.

No, it's a 6.5 Project One with Sram Force. Slightly different colour from 5.9, but they do look very similar.

I'm pretty sure the Eddy fit was about four ingers of seatpost and French fit implied seat and bars approximately level? On a bike with a sloping top tube you might see a fistful of post, but on a flat top tube you might see less than an inch of post.

Let's think about this. Classic fit, (**** the eddy, french, racer... competitive cyclist nonsense) has about 4 fingers of post showing. Think about an aero seatpost, you can't slam that to the top of the lug, you need to show about 3" of post. Then let's think about the size graduations of a frame- 2cm right? that's less than an inch. I'm just saying that if he's slamming his post that far in, (and his seat that far back ) he's either the longwaisted to the point of being the worlds tallest midget, or something's way off.

If he had 2cm more post (from a frame 2cm shorter) showing, it'd be a lot closer to a normal looking fit. Right now they all looks like a teenager who's riding his dad's bike and hasn't had the money to get a bike that fits properly. He's managing to put the bars higher than the saddle with a negative rise stem. That's not right.

i agree the sizing looks funny. he also has his saddle slammed all the way back in the rails on many of those, and long stems. usually people who are riding bikes way too big for them slam their saddles all the way forward, or even switching the post/guts around. perhaps he has short legs and a loooong torso or arms. really it's all just speculation without seeing the rider on the bike.

    OMG maybe he's a chimp!

The bike has been here before, but it's now sporting new tires. These fat suckers ride so smoothly, highly recommended.

I've been out of the bike industry for almost 10 years now and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Rivendell Bikes is still around. Grant Peterson is one of the nicest guys in the business.
