I rebuilt my nephews 80's Hornet and Grasshopper for him. Bit of a pain in the arse and if you smash it into stuff small things are gunna break. I wonder if that's still kicking around? Knowing my SIL it's given away or turfed or something

Should be a fun afternoon's build for one of those. The only PITA would be the building the shocks and filling them with oil, but even that isn't difficult. Just tedious.
Matt, in all seriousness, that thing is gonna run out of space in your upstairs quarter. You're better off getting something a lot smaller, like the 1/18th scale cars.

"excessive chassis yaw" is a $176 fine.

Some kits are harder than others. Tamiya instructions are perfect and every part fits exactly how it should. Kyosho is probably the next best. The rest aren't anywhere near as good. Tamiya has been around for so long that they are the experts at this. The shocks aren't any more difficult and the tamiya damper oils comes in a nice little canister that you just squeeze the oil into the shocks, then move the valves up and down to remove the air and screw up the top. It's not even messy. Go for it Matty, Harry and you will have a great time. Give me a call if you get into any issue!

Try Kyosho Mini-Z perhaps. I have 2 and they are awesome.

Also, there's a guy in Sydney who's selling off a bit of Tamiya gear on ebay.com.au
He's got a Ford Hi-Lift F350 for $400 Buy it now. Not bad eh?I've looked around today. $200 is wholesale price from Tamiya Australia. Hobbyco could have bought a heap of them and got a discount, imported them from Japan or could be selling at a loss to clear them.
Sorry mate!

baaaahahahaha Iva Davies?! I am proud to say that I would not recognise that man if I fell over him in the street. Though of course I know who he is

So I wandered around at the Tamiya Disti here but the staff were typical rude asians so I didn't talk to them.
TamTech Frog is $SGD250 here which I thought wasn't bad. (AUD$215)
The factory built 1/10 Frog was there also. I can't decide between 1/10th or Tamtech. Though the all wheel drive TamTech Hotshot would be the gun one to have I reckon.
Then I saw the 1/14 Remote Control Semi Trailer. For about $2k (then I have to build it) I could have a Scania R470 Semi Trailer with three speed gearbox that's about 1 metre long. On the video it looked AWESOME!

anyway, can you do "hop up" mods to the TamTech cars?
Modified by IML337 at 7:40 PM 9-6-2008

Here you go, son.
Straight to the modifications page, but you can go back to the start of the review and read up on the TamTech Frog as it comes straight out of the box...
#82
Thanks. Looks like it would need mods to be used outside.

I love the radio DJ who rolls out of the chair and heads off in the Rangie to his see missus... waist coat, croc dundee hat and funky side curls... Kyle Sandilands has nothing on this dude.
#85
You're right - Kyle Sandilands he has nothing on him. Because Kyle is a retard and "the radio DJ" is the rather successful Iva Davies!![]()

Sorry mate!
I deadset paid $199 for the mini hornet for my boy, must have been 6 months ago. It came with battery and charger etc etc, everything but the AA's for the controller
![]()
I saw them on ebay for that much and was going to get it then saw them at hobbyco and just grabbed it early (was going to wait a while)
#88
ha, I remember that one. My mate bought a white Vr6 in 94 or 95 ? it was $40 odd grand on the roadback then.
I nearly just bought the radio controlled kit.
I have a kyosho honda nsr500 in the box to be built up one day. Don't think I'll ever use it though.
#89
Tim, what happened with our FJ40??? I am kinda keen on the Tamtech Hotshot or Frog too. I like the size. I have a Kyosho Mini Inferno - 2 actually, 1 electric and 1 gas - and they are ballistic, especially the gas one. I think the Tamtech will be fun!
#90
So I went to a few stores and found an old skool one at Far East Plaza and the owner was really nice and helpful. He even built the Scania Semi Trailer and runs it at the track out at East CoastI bought a TamTech Hotshot as an experiment to see if it's fun. They had the re-release 1/10 Hotshot in kit form also, but I'll start with this, and maybe hop it up a bit, and see where it goes.
Though I realised when I drove home that the 3 levels of empty massive carpark here at home would be PERFECT for running the Scania rig on
![]()
Anyway, the FJ40 was actually SGD$599. Is that good? (You gotta buy the radios etc after that too, of course) I paid SGD$290 for the hotshot with batteries/charger etc. Ready to roll.

Tim, don't bother with the FJ40 at that price. We can get it on eBay through HK for $350 landed. As for the little hotshots, I am now keen too! I will check out eBay.Hotshot was my first Tamiya RC, and I had 2 of them, plus close cousins Boomerang and Big Wig. Ah memories.

So is it quick enough or should I not bother? And how much is the Martini Porsche 935? That is the car that my racing simulator is based on.
#98
Quote, originally posted by WAY » So is it quick enough or should I not bother? It's quick enough, but could be faster I think... Tamiya do genuine hop up parts for the TamTech cars, so you can walk into a store and buy a higher output engine, or oil filled shocks, and fit them yourself fairly easily. I think to buy the engine and shocks would be around $70 or so. I'll get a bit more used to mine and maybe do those upgrades in a few weeks. Not that it's hard to drive haha...
The AWD is great though, this thing slides and drifts and spins on the polished car park concrete and tiles. With some more grunt it would be loads of fun.
#99
I just pulled out my pristine (ie, never used) Kyosho Mini-Inferno electric version. It's the same size as the Hotshot. Maybe I will hop this one up with brushless motor etc. If I pump in $300 I am sure I can make this an awesomely quick car!

Do you honestly think the Frog (with it's pink hue) is less ghey then the ones I mentioned???

The frogs the best, forget the rest.
I mite have to get me a tamtech one hot it up and challenge Tim to singapore MIDNIIIIIGHT CLUUUUB! That'd prolly be easier than finding my old one and repairing it haha
Anyone know how i might get the Original Decals made to scale?

Don't go with the decal guys who did my racing simulator. They suck.![]()
I want to race you and Timmeh! I have decided to hop up my Kyosho instead of getting yet another car. It will be fun!
#104
Yup, Frogs were the dopest ever.
And though my old man brought me back the more expensive/newer Hot Shot from HK (back in the day), I couldn't have been more ungrateful, hahahah.I believe that was a critical defining moment in my life, when i learned the art of passive-aggressive sooking.
#105
If my son sook because I just bought him a new/latest toy in town, I will be spanking his arse.
