I've been using Castle stuff pretty much exclusively since my "return" to RC after many many years. With Castle, you can choose to let the ESC figure out the timing, so that is what I meant by turning it off. It works better unless you are racing. Do you have an auto timing thing on your ESC?

The HW Xerun 150A is a great ESC btw. As you know I wouldn't buy something that isn't. You can even run sensored motor with it whereas you can't with the HPI Blur which is a castle MMM. Another great Chinese product.

Speaking of Chinese products, I've been eyeing a Team C T8Te. Team C is a relatively new entrance to the RC world from China. Some of the products are freaking fantastic.

Absolutely not. KV is too high. Didn't look properly but it looks like a 1/16th scale motor to me. If you want a cheap brushless option, look at the Hobby Wing range, or even Hobby King.

I got my old Mãrklin set out a few weeks ago for Finn but It needs power, controllers and space to set it up. My old man bought it second hand for me when I was four... Without these bits(dickhead) so it's been a great static toy for forty years.

No promises, but I just may have a spare controller. Will check on next foray into the archives.

Just saw this. Given you can't buy that kit anymore and the .2 version with minimal difference is $200 more than what Ryan and I paid, I don't think you want to go down that path. Being the nice guy that I am (ok I have a vested interest because I want to have people to bash with lol), I am willing to sell my second brand new kit to you ($275 + 65 shipping). Also being the nice guy that I am, I will sell you the SkyFly radio that I bought as well which is blardy cheap yet perfect for use. It will store up to 10 models with the rx at $10 each! I will never buy another $300-400 radio system again. Anyway that is $55. I have no use for it yet so will wait till when I actually need it to buy another one. Both items are BNIB and never used. Ryan, can you please chime in on what electronics and drivetrain you bought. I don't think he wants to spend the kind of money I did for mine. Nor should he do so!

As discussed on the phone Matty...if you mate wants one too, he will have to get the RC8.2e which is another $200. Assembly is pretty straight forward honestly. I would not get the radio Ryan suggested and stick to the one I suggested as it is a better radio and it's only $20 more.

Repair of the ESC is beyond my skill level as I actually pulled one of the pads off the PCB rather than just the solder joint

Haha looks like I will need to re-stock up on all my gears! On my shopping list today is a new buggy kit (will have to be something diff as RC8Be is no longer available), a new backup ESC (will buy the same one again) and a new radio (will buy same one again).

Anyway Matty, here is a link of the RC8.2e, which is the replacement for the RC8Be. It has 3mm longer chassis, slightly differently geometry for the shocks and a different body shell and that is it! It also doesn't come with tyres so relative to the run out price we got on the RC8Be, it is almost double the price! I have driven both and can't tell the difference. Richard, this is what OllieWAY and I got up to instead this morning. We hardly drive these cars in the dry anymore lol. These cars are the same as the Ken Block Fiesta that Matt has, just different body shells and wheels.
