Do proline do tyres and rims for the pede?

Their stuff is great. I had problems with stock tyres coming off but it's a lot to do with the foams ballooning and ripping the tyre off.

If you get the closed cell blue foams, they won't balloon as much and will stop your tyres off.

    Busy weekend for RC!

Building my second losi 8ight now. Got the radio boxes, battery tray and shocks on. Savox and castle stuff to go in during the week.

For the helicopter guys. I played a simulator at the shop and crashed a lot lol. Is a sim a good start? I'm thinking of getting the Phoenix simulator with controller. $95 spend is cheap compared to breaking choppers. After I get good, I'd buy a decent chopper . Thoughts? Should I buy Clearview instead?

No, you're on the money with phoenix. If you think repairing cars get tedious, it's a thousand times worse with heli's. Flown a fixed pitch heli at all?

Something you may want to consider is to start with a smaller CP heli, such as the mcp X before going up. I've crashed it heavily inside and all that needs to be done is pop back on the links. Learning is a trade off, the size of the larger ones make them inherently more stable, however when you have "dumb thumbs" they do a lot more damage and cost $$$+++

HK is doing a mcp X clone that's as good as the original for $130 i think. I was tempted to grab one and play with the heli's again.

edit they're $109. with controller. Wished they had a BNF.

    Ok cool.

Generally I'm off my chops after a bottle of wine when t home on weekends. The chopper would be indoor/backyard kind of thing. Chances are I'd get smashed then think flying the chopper would be awesome. That's what happened last time and 3 minutes and $95 later it was all over lol.

So I think a simulator is best for me right now.

I don't mind working on cars now that I have 6 months experience in the hobby. The savage xs is a nightmare but my others are a piece of cake. I'm not patient so I go a million miles an hour when taking stuff apart so I never work long on cars.

For a chopper I'd go simulator for a while then look into a 600 series for outdoor work. I've been reading they are very stable and easier to fly than the 450s. What do you think Smarmalicious?

They are, but they need a ****load of room. The blades tips with a conservative head speed of 1800rpm is > 400km/h. They hit, they damage! But they're impressive in the air. I wouldn't fly a 600 sized bird in a park with kids/dogs etc.

If you want an indoor/outdoor thign to **** around with whilst drunk, take a look at the mcp X. It's flybarless, hard to break and cheap. Even WAY had a go last time at Windsor, and it survived him.

    Ahh righto. Good to know!

So I'll get this Phoenix thing sorted and Get myself some skills. I was flying some twin motor army thing on the simulator. Damn hard! I was glad to see I killed 12 software choppers in 2 minutes rather than 12 real life choppers. I figured I saved myself a few hundred bucks in that 2 minutes

On a side note, anyone interested in my HPi Vorza flux?

Smarmatron - with Phoenix do I buy the version that comes with the spectrum dx5e? Can I use the controller with a real rc helicopter or is it a fake one?

Can I use a real controller with the software?

Yeah, you can. I'd get a dx6i as a minimum, as the 5e is schit. If you don't mind piracy, then spend $150 on the controller, $5 on a cable and $0 on phoenix....

I'd rather buy a real, controller so I can use it down the track.

eBay the controller ormismther an online store I should head to?

eBay is fine. There's some bloke selling phoenix for $65 with a cable on the site you've listed your vorza.

Wayne, and others need some heads up on what to get as a first RC, basically never had anything serious so complete novice in that regard, I was cruising with the little one the other day he saw someone running a nitro in the park, went insane over it...

    So, priorities are;

needs to run for some time i.e preferably over 30 min on one charge
Has to last and take a beating, part of the fun is being silly with it?
Would rather more offroad than onroad
Don't want to deal with broken bits and pieces doing upgrades and so on, so it has to be good out of the box

    Any suggestions??

30min run time is a 2S-3S RC but even then you are pushing it.

For nothin to break, I'd say short course truck all the way. My losi xxx-sct copped an absolute beating and still ran. I'm talking major abuse here. 20ft high jumps only to crash on the ground and summersault 20 times. I out a 12 turn motor, then a 9 turn motor in it and it went pretty well. I'd have kept it if it wasn't RWD.

Other than that I'd look at a monster truck. Stampede 4x4 VXL.

What's the budget as that really says it all.

Monster truck looks good, I think the bigger/more flashing lights the more he'll like it, also forgot to add, it does not need to be super fast, maybe 2-speed, so it can run indoors?

Budget doesn't matter (within reason), I wouldnt have a clue what is reasonable tough, would <$1k get me everything including chargers, controller and whatever else I need??

I ended up being up at Baw Baw for the weekend afterall. Lost the chance to ski on Sat due to the car issues but ended up taking a family member's 4WD up there. Only did a little RC bashing in the snow but not too much.

Just get the RPM will ya lol. I am with Flogbox all the way in terms of RPM tyres. They are the best bar none. What size hex does your Traxxas use? I have some HPI rimes and proline tyres that may do the trick. Actually I bought them for the Savage XS which is now owned by you obviously.

Yes, and clearly that was a VERY windy day the way the heli just flew sideways on it's own.

Haha all except crawling up stairs and rocks. I would recommend Stampede 4x4 VXL too, except that rig isn't suitable for a begginer. ANd it doesn't have two speed (actually not many car has!).

Summit is the obvious choice but good luck diving it indoors. It's a friggin monster!

I snapped another servo horn today at the track. That's my second in about 10mins driving. It's hard to get usEd to the quick, sharp steering and on top of that I'm going into corners way to hot. Had some great stacks, I'm surprised I only snapped a horn. Got another one on now and will try again tomorrow

My cable extension leads arrived today. I can now plasti dip my wraith receiver. I'll take pics so I can show you what the cables are for.

How is it that you keep breaking servo horn? I have never broken one (fingers crossed lol). Is your servo saver too tight???

Well I'm driving faster so crashes are harder. I came down a few times on the front wheel and I expected a knuckle Or tie rod end to break but the servo horn copped it. I'd rather a servo horn snap than something else but maybe they were to weak.

I'll check out the metal servo horns tomorrow.

I also got a new body shell for the 8ight which I need to paint up. I'm thinking all silver or close to gun metal grey body, black disc wheels (on the way) and a black wing. Thoughts?

All balck will be cool. I guess I don't really crash my cars because I am not driving on the track so it is understandable. I do massive jumps all the time though and never broken a servo horn.

Anyway, here is a video from the weekend. A bit of snow RC action. Posted this on the other thread too but seeing half the video is of RC I am posting it here too.

looks like loads of fun wayne I think you need some chain friendly rims for the Sante Fe lol.

Fark ordered some bits from amain including the rpm camber links etc postage was 69 cents lol. RC Planet wanted to charge over $30 bucks. When are you ordering the Mugen Wayne?

lemonaid get him something cheaper to start off with the Tamiya Mini Frogs etc are tough, loads of fun and can be hopped up later on with plenty of parts. My son has flipped his, smashed into gutters etc, the only carnage so far is broken front wheel, and bent shock absorber shaft which is easily straightened, With chunky tires on the back can run on grass quite well aslo. As a bonus also a good size for indoor action. Otherwise the 2wd Stampede is not a bad choice, get the vxl version with brushless motor and esc the standard brushed one is crap, but easily fixed with a hobbywing conversion.

BTW went to a good indoor skate park in Mitcham would be awesome for RC fun with jumps etc, You can hire it out for private functions.

Ok what am I doing wrong Zorg? My postage is never that little! Can you show me the link to what you bought and I will see how much the postage is for me???

Wow, that skate park is crazy cool! Let's all rent it out for 2 hours! We will get Flogbox down too.

I was the same when i was bashing. I rarely broke anything (dependent on the car of course). Bashing is easy going on the car as you are taking your time to line up jumps and there is no rush. On the track, you might be sideways out of a corner and hit a triple at a 45 degree angle and the result is obliteration lol.

I got the 8ight again this morning but took it really easy on the track. No race pace, no crashes. Car was great but even taking it east the motor is getting to a million degrees so the gearing is way out. I think it's to tall. Not sure what size spur but pinion is 18t when it should be 15t-16t so i'll sort that out tonight.

All black Nice on real life cars. Crap on RC cars.

WTF is with that postage????? 60 cents? It'd be by airmail but even so that's insane!

The skatepark looks awesome. I'd love to smash some of my cars to pieces in there

WAY - I forgot to ask you about the 3Racing stuff. Are the prices any good as they are pretty cheap here so is it worth getting it from o/s?

Are they any good as an on road car vs a used TC5 or something like that? Used on road cars seem to be dirt cheap.

I want to pay around $100. I don't want to spend massive $$$ as i will rarely use it.

I'm not sure if that is realistic or not as i don't know anything about on road RC cars.
