'06 GTi is at 228,000 mi (≈365,000 km) and am facing a tough decision.
While it is still running ok, there are little things to be tended too
and big things that must be done (timing belt is now overdue).
Car really needs about $10k in maintenance to remain reliable
(timing belt, replace original clutch, replace original HIDs, etc., etc.)
and when that is done it is still a high mileage vehicle. Probably makes more sense to replace it.
mk7 isn't getting here fast enough, and if I have to wait, the 2015 Subaru WRX STi sure looks interesting.

But what is your compression? Are you burning oil excessively? Orig. OEM turbo? Keep it for a proj. but get the Mk7 for a DD. Then take the time and a Bentley to learn how to get your 06 back in shape or OEM+. Then use that to keep the miles off the Mk7. Anyways congrats on breaking 200k miles, I'm only 100k behind

No, oil consumption has remained constant, same today as it was new

      Maybe,
I was in Detroit with my wife during the Detroit auto show in January,
wanted to go see the mk7 then, my wife asked if I could see it at the Cinci show and I said I suppose so,
so I waited. The local Cincinnati car show is running this week, went down today - no mk7 to display
But then again, Subaru did not have the 2015 WRX, BMW did not have the 2 series - what a waste of time and money.

Bought the Bentley when the car was new. I have done engine and transmission overhauls on other cars in the past.
Have doen a few mods to my car on my own, I do some of the maintenance now (oil changes, winter - summer wheel/tire swaps, brakes, etc.
My health makes those tasks much more difficult now, that is why I will farm major work out.
