Two diffused light sources flanking either side of the artwork at equal distance and angle should do the trick for the most part.

Actually, I'm sure you can find some handy pointers on the interwebs.

The tripod arrived but the mounting point doesn't have a quick release on it, which is annoying. Serves me right for not doing my research. Heavy, but seems well built.

I've got a swimming meeting tomorrow, in the inside pool at MSAC. Going to try taking pics in manual, but with single point AF, auto ISO, f/2.8 and 1/250 min shutter. Any tips appreciated.

Edit: mixed success yesterday. Got through the day using manual settings only, albeit with auto ISO. The early pics I took at 1/500 were much better than the rest of the pics at 1/1000 or 1/1250. Also, although they looked too bright in the camera, the spot metering was better than the evaluative metering. So, next time--single point AF, auto ISO, f/2.8 and 1/250 to 1/500 shutter, and single spot metering.

Just realised that of the 6 camera bags I've got (and a pelican case for home storage), a grand total of zero suit my requirements for 10 days in Malaysia...

Anyone want to buy a camera bag??

Doesn't look like there's much manual control tho.. Even the S100 has more manual controls.

Should one buy a 7D now or wait for the rumoured 70D in a few weeks?

Either way, I'd wait until after Photokina.. Only crazy people buy just before the biggest photo trade show on earth.. It's like buying a Mac 3 weeks out from WWDC..

If the 7D Mk II is announced as an entry level full frame, you might see prices drop on the 7D, but you may also want to go FF..

dunno if a 7D upgrade is coming, don't forget there's that major firmware upgrade coming out in a few days time.

I've always wondered how photojournalists and war correspondents make decisions on what/what not to photograph and if/how/what they think about after, so I found it insightful..

On a lighter note, and something for Mick, Matt and Liam to drool over...

The CPS store room at the olympics...

If you're wondering why no-one on earth can get a 1Dx 10 months after they were announced [cough]vapourware[/cough], it's because they're all in London sitting on a shelf doing nothing..

As one of the comments noted "The irony of those pics being taken with a ****ty camera phone."

Is Canon still the exclusive requirement for the Olympics? Used to be the case...no Canon, no entry as a press photographer!

I don't think they ever did that. Seems crazy.

I don't think it was ever Canon exclusive, but Canon dominated in the days around the 1Dn, as the Nikon D2h was pants.. D3 and high ISO changed all that, especially for indoor sports, and I think it's almost 50:50 these days. Plenty of gold ring love.. (heh..)

There's at least enough Nikon gear for NPS to send a team of this size to support the olympics...

And AFP are doing cool robotic D4 rigs..

And from the other end of the spectrum... Shooting with 4x5 large format press camera..

Apparently, it's David Burnett and he's shooting for the IOC museum in Lausanne.

That lens doesn't appear on Gray's website anymore (It was advertised in May), so it looks like someone may have bought it and it's out in the wild somewhere..
