Of course. I think they're quite expensive though. I'll have a look.

Also, talking about expense, I've made a bet with someone that may mean I lose my 60D. While I immediately felt a bit of remorse, it soon subsided when I started reading reviews about the 5D Mk III.

What's the issue you're trying to address Matt?? Problems shooting indoors?? What ISO are you shooting at?

Going from 50mm f/1.8 on a crop sensor to 85mm f/1.2 on full frame virtually only gains you a single stop of light, nothing more, but brings with it the difficulty of shallower depth of field for focus. You can gain that extra stop just by doubling your ISO from 200 to 400 or 400 to 800 and maintaining the same shutter speed to freeze action like swimmers. Deal with the extra noise in post...

Matt sent me some of the photos to have a look at, looks like the lighting in the swimming centre is REALLY bad. A flash might help, and/or a fast lens, but it looks like quite dim discharge lighting, which is about as difficult as it gets.

Had this arrive today. Still awaiting my full frame body to go with it...

If anyone wants to know which Sydney based Nikon-only authorised dealer has tempting prices, and is happy to charge your card last Thursday, and then goes and sells your camera to a walk-in on Saturday before they ship it, then makes excuses about not getting stock in when they thought they would, just let me know...

    BIN?

    Buy It Now.

It was probably about 1500-2000 below the going rate for a good second hand one.

There's another on there for ~$5600 BIN, but it's very rough, and pickup only (in Sydney)

I was shooting at 1600 in the pool on Saturday. Micky had an interesting suggestion and that was to allow a bit of blurriness in the arms etc provided the head's sharply in focus. I guess that may mean tracking, which is a skill set in itself.

"Deal with the extra noise in post..." I wouldn't know where to start with that. I've accepted in the last two days that I have to bite the bullet with Lr and stick my hand in my pocket. Shooting in RAW has reared its ugly head too, given the white balance problems I've been having.

You know I had a flash with me and didn't use it because I didn't think I could bounce the light off anything. The roof is too high. In hindsight, I probably should have pointed it directly towards the swimmers, it's not as though I would have had problems with red-eyes.

almost all of those shots you sent me were at 6400 (63 of the 74), hence the noise.
if you're panning with the 70-200, put the IS on mode 2 (switch on the lens), it stabilizes in one direction only then - specifically for panning.

I'm not sure if the flash will or won't help, but it's definately worth a try. Look up 2nd curtain sync as well (in the flash manual) and enable that, otherwise any blur will be in front of the movement instead of behind, which looks odd.

Had it on mode 2, just checked. Not sure I was even attempting to pan though. I wonder if you can even do that with swimming because even a swimmer's head will be rotating.

Anyone here have a Canon S100?

got an S95, VERY good camera, and the S100 is apparently a good improvement.

Can you do the colour filter thing in my colours option like my old Ixus did?

    How does a S100 compare to a Sx260?

Yeah, for a full frame sensor in essentially a pro level body with tank like build (compared to the D90), and 3 years of legit Aus warranty, I'm happy. $2399 in the end, and a far cry from the $4k+ they were going for in 09/10. It was cheaper from Teds locally than from DigitalRev or other (decent) HK sellers too. In the end, I was looking at the D7000 for $1400 or full frame for another grand.. D800 is overkill for me in MP and price.

Interesting tale of my DX gear sales...

D90 sold on fleabay for $480, so lost about 2/3rds value over 3 years. About what I expected..

AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 sold for $220, paid $340 for it new 3 years ago. Relatively happy with that..

AF-S DX 16-85mm has sat on fleabay for over 10 cumulative days (been relisted) at $399 with 12 watchers but not a single bidder.. New they're going for over $1k locally or $900+ from HK. Seems this lens is the total opposite of the 35mm 1.8 and has become either worthless or no-one is looking for one. Not really sure why no-one wants this as it's got great optics, and while it's pricey new, I figured it was good value at $400..

Bought the s100 for 380 which wasn't bad but this is an awesome camera and hitting myself why I didn't buy it sooner

Question there is a mode called miniature mode which blurs everything in the back ground and focuses the detail on the object you are shooting.

Is this the same as how people do it with dslr cameras or is there another method?

    Sorry for the noob question

No, it's called "Macro" which produces a very small depth of field. On SLR cameras you'd need a special macro lens that would allow you to do that.

This is there to create the effect recently popularised that makes everything look like it was taken of miniature scale toys with a tilt/shift lens. It's not macro.
