So here is my MK1 project, I bought it a few years ago off of vortex. It was towed up from Georgia to the Niagra area of Ontario, where I picked it up and towed it to the east coast (Nova Scotia) it was and is an on going project. For the first while I was just collecting parts and itching to get started on it. When the time came, I got it in the shop and started stripping it down to just a bare shell. I made a stand for it and flipped it on it's side, but after working at it that way for some time, I found it to be a real pain not being able to spin it to get at different parts from different angles. So I bought a couple of engine stands and some square tube, after some measuring, cutting and welding, it is now able to spin to almost any angle I want to work at. I have been extremely busy and haven't had the time to put into it like I would like to do.

The drivetrain is from an 03 Wolfsburg with 79,000 kms
Pics of the project and parts collecting
    Here goes.....

Caddy in Niagra before towing it home

    arriving home with it

All the parts I have collected to date, all body parts, window seals, weatherstripping etc. are genuine VW

Tailgate from California thanks to the samba

    Other odds and ends

wheels are still undecided but here is what I have so far.

A few other goodies I plan on picking up

here is the progress to date..........

the new setup for turning it.

A test fit of the stainless floor for the bed I had made.

    The drivetrain

will try and update as progress continues.

i say do the HUFFS for wheels. will definitely make things interesting, especially if you can tuck them!
How does a rotary work? This one's easy: the magic triangle spins in the peanut and then apex seals come out.

Thanks for the info, not much experience with bags, so any help is appreciated. I found the AIM from searching for bags for a caddy, found they have a complete kit. That is the only reason I was looking at them. Will check the info you mentioned.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, progress has been a little slow to say the least, hopefully over the winter I will have/get more time to work on it.

From looking at your other builds, you seem to know what you are doing in an insanely awesome way.

Can't wait to see what happens here.

This is EXACTLY what I need to do to my Caddy! But I have a donor bed in good condition already removed. Just the cross pieces still in tact.

How'd you remove the top off of those stock cross braces?

NM, I saw you drill out the spot welds... Looks great!!!

yea AIM pretty much makes their set ups available for damn near any vehicle. i know they have been know for overall cheap production of air ride parts. do a lil more research and find out whats best to use oh yea, make sure you go with 8 valves not four, waaaay better ride and its not worth savin yourself the extra 110 bucks. ive always wanted to see some caddy's slammed on air as i am a former mini trucker so i wish you best of luck in your project!

and one for old memories... build yours to lay hard and throw sparks

Made some progress today, nothing major, but will definetly help when the new bed goes in. All the cross braces were really bowed, as well as one of the rails. So I spent some time straightening the rail, cut and test fit the cross braces. I have to finish cleaning up the undercarriage before welding the cross braces in. They sit nice and level

Not everything is for certain, things are always changing as I go along, all I know 100% right now, is it will be getting a stainless bed, and a 1.8T
