Glad to see this thread come back. I looked around for some dope the other day... needless to say, I found nothing.

That pic was already published in 1992 when I was at Patuxant River NAS so I can't say exactly when.

      Hybrid Wing Body Model
NASA's Glenn Research Center dedicated a model of the hybrid wing body, a futuristic aircraft concept, on July 8, 2009. The center is testing parts of a new propulsion system that can be embedded in the wing of the airplane. Developed by NASA and Boeing, the plane is called a hybrid wing body because its wings and fuselage blend together in a triangular shape. The concept could revolutionize air travel because of its potential to increase fuel efficiency, while reducing noise and emissions.

A Saturn I booster model is set up for testing in NASA Lewis (now Glenn) Research Center's Supersonic Wind Tunnel in 1960. The model had eight working rocket engines with 250 pounds of thrust each. The tests simulated actual flight conditions, providing valuable information to optimize vehicle stability and air pressure distribution.
The Saturn I had a cluster of eight rocket nozzles in the first stage and was used to lift Apollo into low Earth orbit to test out the spacecraft and to later support the Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz Test project.

Golf I original Dope Shizzz thread got canned. Hopefully this one doesn't have as much profanity, nudity, bickering, etc. ...ok ok, maybe we can keep partial nudity.
BTW, my work put me on leave without pay but its finals week for summer semester so I haven't had much Dope Shizzz research time. Should post something up later this week.

His company has been gone for years, but it was called Cochran Airport Systems. They did all kinds of equipment, like the first cargo loader for the 747, etc. He designed the first baggage loader that had a conveyor belt mounted down the middle of the vehicle.

While the Tunner may be similar to other aircraft loaders it isn't related to anything Cochran built. This model was designed in the mid 90's and was deployed from '98 and is still actively receiving retrofits today. The original company was Systems & Electronics Inc (SEI) formerly the defense division of Emerson Electric.

A white-hot flame surrounded by red hot exhaust shoots from a recent test of the J-2X engine 'workhorse' gas generator at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala. The workhorse gas generator simulates the flow path inside the actual J-2X gas generator that powers the engine's turbo machinery. Testing to ensure stable combustion and uniform gas temperature in this component translates into a safer, more durable J-2X engine, which will power the second stage of the new Ares I rocket.

It's amazing that an engine first designed for the Saturn V is still being used (modified).
