I tried Crank Bros on my old 29er and since they didn't have them in stock when I did my ins. claim, I went Shimano XT. I really like the control on the XT's.

I got a little burnt out this season so I did what any other road biker would do- get a 29er
Last time I had one of these I broke my leg... Reaaaaally need to find some mtn shoes and pedals. Haven't got to truly take it out yet. This thing is like a stiff road bike on the dirt, super responsive.

How do you like your Superfly? I'm in the process of building up that same frame (warranty replacement for a cracked GF Paragon). Still need to run the cable, cut housings, and adjust everything but it is almost together. Budget 1x10 setup.

its badass.... the geometry is not twitchy and climbs well.

Odd question...have you ever had a chance to loosen the seat post clamp to move your seat post? I installed my Thomson and there was zero friction holding the post and it will pretty much drop all the way down if you let go before tightening the clamp. I've never had a frame like this and the LBS is telling me it is normal. Curious if I have an out of spec frame or if they are all like that. I'm worried about seat post slipping when I start riding.
#922
did your OEm one do that.... or just the Thomson? could be the seat post at fault too.
the seatpost clamp will take up for a fair amount of slack.

You sure it's the right size? Mic both?

So after an introduction into the "All-Mountain" segment last year and a quick season on my previous bike, I was itching for a new 29er bike, especially one that fit me right, as the Transition TransAM ended up feeling too small for me @ 6'4". Just a quick ride around the neighborhood tonight on the Honzo and things are looking great this season.
- 2012 Kona Honzo frame, 20 Long
- 2012 Fox 34 Talas 29 140/110 FIT RLC
- Cane Creek 40 headset cups
- Sun Ringle Charger Expert wheelset, sans stickers
- 2.4 Maxxis Ardent / 2.25 Maxxis Ardent, tubeless, Stans sealant
- Shimano SLX M665 brakes 203/180mm rotors
- Shimano SLX M665 crank
- Shimano XT M770 BB
- e.13 Guidering 32T
- Shimano SLX M662 GS rear derailleur
- Shimano HG-61 12-36 cassette
- Shimano SLX M660 Rapidfire shifter
- MRP Lopes SL chainguide
- Chromag Fubars OSX, 780mm wide, 25mm rise
- ODI Oury lock-on grips
- Thomson X4 50mm stem
- 2012 Rockshox Reverb 420x125mm post
- WTB Deva SLT saddle
- Point1 Racing Podium pedals
- Chromag QR seat clamp
- Chromag QR rear wheel skewer
31.13 lbs
Under 30 lbs would have been nice, but the last minute component changes were so worth it IMO (the Fox 34 and the Reverb post). And it's still lighter than my previous bike, so it's all good!

My Ventana, I've had it since late 07, custom built by CompetitiveCyclist, I haven't rode it as much as I should have since, but now I live in Okinawa and there is fantastic riding here, so I am getting my ass back into it, and abusing this bike properly now....

In all seriousness, how do you like the superlight? I ask mainly because for years I read about how it's not a fully active system, blah blah blah. How does it actually ride? Mind you, I'm a slow poke XC rider, not an "extreme all mountain duder" I've never even rode FS, just hardtails for the last 17 years...

i like it alot so far. for reference i've ridden a relatively ****ty raleigh hardtail for the past 2-3 years, and this is my first real bike purchase. i decided to go fs in part because pittsburgh has lots of roots and you can find good descents (with more roots). also, i'm only 5'6" and felt really high up on the 29ers that i tried. lastly, and this is just a mental thing, but i couldn't rationalize the price of a 29er if i already had a serviceable hardtail.
as for the superlight compared to other fs it still feels comfortable hitting roots and rocks, but i have way less pedal bob than my buddy with a trek fuel ex9. i tried the cannondale rz120(3) and scott spark70-60-50. they were all nice, but didn't feel 'special' to me. to me the superlight is a proven design that climbs like a hardtail and deals with roots and obstacles like a fs.
i also am mainly xc / singletrack, but now wouldn't mind adding in a little more downhill to the mix.

Old but still fun. Lots of Fire road and single track today.

Replacement for the Paragon frame is finally built up and ready to roll. Just have seven more days of recovery before I can get back on the bike again:

What chain ring is that? ^^^
The cut-out areas are usually behind the crank arms, and the solid areas are at 3 & 9 o'clock for bashing off rocks & logs.
anyway, that thing should fly!

Ahhhh...you know I didn't even pay attention to the cut outs on the CR until you said something. I'll rotate it just to be safe. Thank you!
