no, not looking for wheels. I need to save up some money to work on the body. Just looking for some tires. I like the look of the snowflakes.
I've read and heard that the Falken ZE912's are a decent all around tire. Anyone here have them?

Hmmm, I see them advertised on craigslist for $39/each for 185/60/14. I might have to check them out.

Finally had a chance to put this video clip of what the exhaust sounds like. It's a bit loud and drones a bit at highway speeds. I think I need to put in another resonator.

Just put on the 185/60/14 falken ZE912 on the front and some cheapy Federal 185/60/14 tires on the back. NO MORE TIRE RUMBLE!!! but, now the turn in is not as sharp. But, that was what was expected. Hopefully, the gas mileage will improve too.
Hopefully, in a month I'll have a garage to start working on the body.

Not a good week...
Discovered someone probably backed up into my rear bumper on the passenger side resulting in it getting pushed in and a gap the width of my thumb on the driver's side.
REverse has been getting more and more difficult to get in. Many times having to put it into first then reverse. Even then it's sometimes hard to get into gear. I'm thinking of getting the the USRT shift kit.
Then today, the front engine mount bolt decides to fall out on the freeway... luckily I was able to coast into the El forlito parking lot in Anaheim... I was contemplating driving it another 4 miles back to work, good thing I erred on the side of caution and pulled over. the engine fell forward enough to push the fan into the radiator. Luckily, no puncture or leak of coolant. I'm going to tow it to Ron @ VW Specialties for him to fix. hopefully, it won't be too expensive...
Where the bolt is supposed to be....
The car definitely is a work in progress and needs some more lovin....

Thanks for the offer, but Ron tightened up one of the bushings in the shifter linkage and it seems to have fixed the problem.

This is what the front strut top hats look like when the cars on the ground
Driver's side

Passenger side

But, there's no gap when the cars jacked up. Ron said the bearings are probably worn. The previous owner said he upgraded them to the VR6 strut mounts.
Anyone know how to replace the bearing? Do I need to pull the strut out? Do i need spring compressors?
any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, cat back was rattling like mad.

onto

Hopefully will fix it for now.

Project for the weekend. Somebody backed into me a few weeks ago (no note as usual) I ripped off the big bumper cover to see what the damage was. Should I pound it out or just go to the junkyard and find a good one?

I got my self a sanding wheel, touch up paint, and some 1000 grit sand paper. Hopefully, I can tackle the dozens of rust spots like these....

Most of my time has been put into the new house. But, I've done a few things. I put in a new cabin air filter kit. A LOT LESS DUST inside the car now. Painted the side trim, going to work on the fender flares. A couple weekends ago, I took a wire wheel to some of those rust spots. Got all the ones on the hood. Took it down to the bare metal, then put some touch up primer over it for the meantime. Did a few spots on the roof too. But there are more, a lot more rust spots to take care of.
Rust list
There's a tricky spot in the back driver's side window underneath the seal.
area around the sunroof drains, the worst part of the car, it's bad, rusting through, sunroof seals completely rotting
around the rear hatch mounts (surface rust)
front fenders near the banana lights
floor pans
Battery tray
This is a CA car too.... just 21 years of neglect....
Other issues:
water leaks (need to change door vapor barriers, sunroof seal)
fuel pump housing leak, fuel pump possibly going out (doesn't like me flooring it in 3rd gear)
MFA freaks out (not going to bother with it)
small oil leak near the oil cooler
quad grill needs to be replaced
rear bumper bent
front strut bearings worn out

Preventative maintenance due for the next month:
change out the acc belts
change oil
This is definitely a LONG term project.... slowly, but surely....
Oh yeah, I did clay bar & wax the hood and painted the rear bumper cover.

Car's filthy....
But, I picked up a rear strut bar at Eurosport Dyno day!

I think the Neuspeed rear bar is better, but I couldn't pass it up for the price.
I think it's time for new shocks though.... feeling a little soft, esp in the back....

Changed spark plugs, oil, cut out the brake vent holes in the lower spoiler, sanded and primed the new red striped grill trim.
observation while changing the spark plugs:

new bosch spark plugs made in China. old one made in Germany. we'll see if there's any performance difference.
Also, looks like i'm getting oil in cylinder 3 & 4. No puddles of oil, just a little damp and spark plugs 3 & 4 were looking particularly foul. So, the valve cover gasket needs to be replaced soon.
New spark plugs seemed to have fixed the hesitation issue that I've been having, particularly in 3rd & 4th gear when open up the throttle. I tried to replicate the problem on the freeway on ramp, several times. It sang all the way to redline without a hiccup. I thought it was the bad fuel pump. Regardless, both fuel pumps need to be replaced soon. The transfer pump made a scrunching noise when i turned the ignition key last night.
Can't wait to put the new grill on! It'll look so much better. Any know how to take the inner lights off?

inner lights are attached to the grill.
most people overlook the cheapest/easiest fix (spark plugs) when they have an issue with hesitation.
