It sits on top of the steering rack, just below the input shaft.

as far as i know its just under the steering wheel, but it might not be in the same location on all MK4s, though i've never heard before that it is on the steering rack

Steering angle sensor probably isn't bad, just needs to be re-adapted since you swapped the rack. It needs to relearn it's zero position. There should be a procdure for doing so in the factpry repair manual. Dealer should be able to do it or you can with Bentley repair maual and vag-com.

worked at a dealer for five years.there is a procedure using the 5052 and guided functions. its a biiotch i spent 4hrs trying to set it on a 05 gli and like 3 on a turbo s beetle. but some of them set in 5 min. but these sensors do go bad every now and then.

    Hi everybody
Was 4 years ago when i was stuck with this problem and i forgot to up date the outcome, here is how i sorted:
I notice that d code always come when turn the steering to d left, so i decide to disconect the flexi joint on botom of steering rack (next to the pedals) and give a full turn to one of the sides (dont remember wich one), conect the flexi, delete d code and sucess, problem sorted! My conclusion was that d stee. wheel turn to one of the sides wile i was fiting the stee. rack... My advice to sort this code (in this situation) is: strait the wheels, disconect the flexi joint, turn the stee. wheel full lock to one side, carefull when turning with the flexi off, as soon you fill a small pressure STOP, one full lock its find, now turn to d other side and count the nr of turns, find the midle between L and R and conect the flexi as centered as you can, delete the code and should be sorted assuming that its all good with the steering angle sensor wich iv'e realised that its together with the airbag/horn disc...

    houpe this could help somebody

    good luck

    Nuno
