Thread: Jetta 1.8T Squealing on startup

    1. 12-15-2008 03:59 PM #1
So for the last year or so, about 90% of the time when I start the car, I get a squealing noise that comes from somewhere in the engine. I have no idea what it is and everything seems fine otherwise, no major issues.

Has anyone else had the same problem? any help would be great!

      bad starter. For sure.
Either clean it up or just get a new one.
there is a DIY on how to fix it.

I'm so glad they put the sound clip in there.
      Makes it 10x easier.
      Good luck with the fix.

Mine does it too every so often and that sound clip confirmed it. I'm definitely going to clean mine out soon.

I thought the starter was causing that noise in my 2.0, that clip confirms what i thought. I will have to work on the car this weekend I guess. Yay time to get dirty!

That starter sounds like more of a grinding than a squealing.
