    I just shot my first roll on a zorki 4. The roll was shot with a mir-1 37mm and a jupiter-8 50mm.

All the shots from the mir look like this. Does anyone know what is happeneing here, because the 50mm works great(pics of 50mm further down)?

Did some research on the lens, looks like it was made for the M39 SLR cameras. Not for the rangefinders. The FFD is very different so that is why everything looks out of focus.

  5. 05-22-2012 09:17 PM #810
DAMN IT!!!!! I really like this lens. I guess on CL it goes.

Yelo - Do you have experience with putting canon/zeiss and other m39rf glass on the zorki?

You won't really find much of any Zeiss glass. They were too wrapped up in the Contax system to make screw mount lenses.

I'm gonna sound super dooshey here but I'll say it anyway. I haven't used my FED or Zorki in ages. I have nicer rangefinder cameras that do the job better. Using the lenses on them isn't a big problem. However be prepared for the possibility of focus being a little off when shooting wide open.

The Russian rangefinder cameras have the tiniest bit different FFD than Leica cameras. There is a reason for this, but I don't want to type it all out

The solution is! Buy the Canon Rangefinder I have for sale

While the three of us are back on this discussion, I'll add that I took the dive and picked up the Bessa R that has been occupying my brain all weekend.

Like I said in one of the other threads we kind of took over, this particular copy was bought new by one of the local DC photo stores years ago but was never sold, so I basically have a brand new in the box Bessa R. Not many people get to say that in 2012

It came with the original box, instruction manual, shoulder strap (still wrapped in plastic), warranty card, and batteries included from the factory! I don't think the batteries are going to work but it'll be worth a shot. Now it's off to ebay for a Jupiter 8 and I'll be on my way.

I do have to say though that this thing does feel pretty delicate. I'm used to banging my metal bodied SLRs and sturdier DSLRs around so it will definitely take a bit of adjustment. But WOW that viewfinder is something else..

Also, since we're all apparently on a RF kick should we tentatively agree to a roll of film a week for the next few weeks? Post top 5 keepers out of the 24/36 from each roll once a week or something? June is going to be 20 straight 12 hour working days for me at my real job so I'll need an extra little push to keep shooting in the limited free time I get.

I'm in, make a new thread tho. I hate how all the film talk just gets tossed in here. It's impossible to find anything.

Awesome. Give me a week to track down a lens and we'll get things started in a designated thread.

I agree that one long thread for all things film is kind of stupid.

Film just gets tossed to the wayside in a sea of people raving about their 50mm f/1.8 and their latest prime lens acquisition. I come to the film thread to have an educated discussion about photography Though I have been absent for sometime, I've been off at my internship so that I may graduate and go off into the real world.

Though, I have still managed to shoot color film when I'm shooting recreationally. I've also taken it upon myself to create photo albums.

I'm glad you guys are down for this

Let's aim to shoot a roll next week and then post a designated thread on the 5th or 6th of June, if that's cool with everyone?

Also, is everyone cool with keeping this exclusive to rangefinders? I would probably "encourage" using only a RF in the spirit of the idea but wouldn't be pissed if someone joined up with a SLR or MF setup, just as long as it shoots a roll of film.

    Leica M3 + Summarit 50mm f/1.5
Developed in D76 stock, and added about 15% developing time, as I want more contrast than my old ass Summarit can give me.

fixed in Kodak Fixer (stock) for 10 minutes.

Played too much with the curves in Lightroom 3.6. I want MORE contrast naturally.

ho snappe, af rf is not allowed. You will have to buy a vintage rf, preferably with a murky vf so that only zone focsuing can be done.

rocknrolla- what film did you use in the third shot with the girls face?
question to everyone - what film produces the most vibrant colors?

  27. 05-25-2012 09:19 AM #832
I like me some Fujichrome Velvia when I want highly saturated and vibrant colors

Fuji Velvia gives the most vibrant, saturated colors.

slide film such as Velvia 50, Ektachrome 100VS are beautiful on a light table. Not so much with your "affordable" scans. For saturated print film, Ektar 100 is beautifully saturated to the point you may want to reconsider shooting portraits of light skinned caucasians.

I'm really happy with the new Portras in 160 and 400. I also like Fujicolor Pro 160S. And Fujicolor Pro 400H.

How are the film-o-philes doing this week? I ordered a Jupiter 8 late last week to slap onto my Bessa-R but it's apparently on the slow-boat from somewhere in Eastern Europe so it might not be here for a while.

Is everyone who has their isht together ready to start the Roll a Week process anyway and should we keep it RF only or open it up to all film camera types?

    I'm up for anything

Seeing how I don't own a rangefinder, I'd prefer it to be open to other camera types.

Thanks. That's part of the bed sheet on the right. I thought about moving it before the shot, but I kind of liked it being there.
