Thread: OFFICIAL Thread of FILM Photography

    1. 12-09-2009 01:22 PM #141
While I still do shoot some digital, I prefer film much more. The quality just isn't there yet with digital that you can get from properly developed and scanned film. My 5D mkII files look great, but my Mamiya 7 Negatives look much better, especially with big enlargements. These were all shot on fuji pro 160S the bw is fuji across

Have you shot 4x5? Or just too expensive/too much gear?

      And to stay on track...

The second shot with the stairs is great! I have shot some large format and it is most impractical to shoot in abandonments with. Not because of its size, that wasn't really the issue, but with the time set up takes and only getting like 10 shots a day. ( I would bring 5 double sided holders) Also the price isn't to bad on some of them my large format set up cost less then my mamiya 7. Thats not saying much though considering my mamiya 7 set up cost close to 3 grand.

Ill contribute. I have unfortunately been shooting a lot of digital lately simply for the convenience, as most of what Ive been shooting are progress pics for my build thread. Nothing serious or "artsy." I have yet to come to appreciate digital as an art form. I feel like getting a "good picture" with digital depends too heavily on your equipment, including a selection of lenses, lighting, and lots of time/skills in photoshop. Film on the other hand allows more creative freedom, and even the cheapest little tricks and toys, and crude darkroom techniques, can produce something worth looking at.

This is what I have right now. Much of it is from around 4 years back. Pardon the very poor quality/excessive graininess/****ed up exposure and contrast. They are all developed in the sink in my garage, and most were enlarged by me as well. I have an extremely craptastic scanner...

Thanks. I cant even describe how excited I got when I saw this thread. I need to finish up my stupid car so I can get back into this stuff more. I have a full darkroom setup but nowhere in my new house that I can completely seal it off from light. Im going to build a little plywood "room" inside my basement. And maybe buy a negative scanner as well.
