The bigger problem is that its's a 20 year old car and you need to get an appraisal to put it in your name.

Appraisal should not be an issue.

I bought an 85 Jetta in October and found a licensed guy on kijiji that would come to your house to do the appraisal and MTO paper work with you. He even asked if you felt comfortable with the appraisal price ($800 lower than I paid for the car).

I have his card at home in my tool box somewhere...

That said, I agree.. nothing wrong with a dizzy VR... Dave's Passat made good power on his (360whp @ 12psi) with a CDI box and MSD coil.
