He's not interested in parting with "his collection" :/ So, I'll just leave him in peace.

He's in the U.P., MI. My reward for a long day....I must say, Wisconsin and Minnesota are definitely NOT panning out in terms of VWishness...30s-60s American steel, on the other hand...there's plenty sitting in yards, fields, and at the side of the road :O

Actually...all of the mk1s are in various states of rot. I took pictures which I'll upload when I get home next weekend. It's sorta sad, but also they didn't rot out just sitting there like that....they were driven in a salty climate.

On the other hand, jetting across Minnesota and North Dakota today, there's sooooo many old F150s and C10s driving around as regular work trucks and NOT rusty, there's only 2 possibilities:
1. they don't salt (likely)
2. they park the vintage trucks for the winter (possible, but being a farmer sometimes doesn't financially afford you the luxury of having multiple trucks "for when you feel like it")

I've also seen many shells (no frame) sitting on a tractor tire or two at the side of the highway with For Sale signs on them. Wow. If I had time/money/skills/more time/more money lol there are any number of possible stunners just waiting to happen....otherwise, there's soooo many vehichles melting into the ground, there's so much steel that could at the very least be recycled for scrap...and it's all being wasted.

And on a financial note, here's an idea of costs for property in the midwest. Keep in mind these are hand-painted signs at the side of the road, but...

MI: 20 acres $39,000
WI: 88 acres $40,000


Now, how do we transplant that?!?! And there's sooooo many abandoned buildings, if they could be moved they'd not be left to rot.

if you mean a mk4 jetta wagon, good luck with that. it took me over a year to find one. sometimes they pop up but 75% of the time they are gone by the time you call. or you go look at them and the whole one side is fromage and the inside smells like a dogs ashole
