Thread: Loss of Cruise Cntrol after fitting MFSW

    1. 01-05-2009 04:02 AM #1
HI all, I know this has happended to a few people so I know I am not alone. My car (2005 MKV Golf GT 2.0TDI), came with the midline dash display and Cruise control as standard from the factory.

I recently fitted a MFSW, and had to change the steering wheel module from my standard 1KO 953 549 F to the newer 1KO 953 549 AL. All went well and the MFSW works perfectly, and I managed to use the Wiki to reset the stering angle sensor etc and get all the dash lights off.

Now as I say everythin works eecept the CCS. When I flick the little rocker switch (it's the CC that's integrated into the indicator stalk not a seperate stalk), the light comes on on the dash but the cruise dens't actually kick in.

I've used VCDS to check the measuring blocks and when I press the main control rocker up or down, I get a reponse from the measuring blocks. The cruise worked perfectly before, so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the stalk ?

The coding for the stering wheel module that I used was 0002042 (from the standard of 0000042).

Can anyone shed any light on this please ?
      Regards
      Andrew

Post a complete scan please, just the coding isn't really enough here...

How come you installed the 1K0-953-549-AL, your dealer should have supplied you with 1K0-953-549-BK if you ordered the module new from them?

I sorta wonder because some of those older modules have recently gotten software updates because they acted weird in combination with cruise control...

P.S.: Please do not bump threads, we are trying to answer all questions as soon as possible but do to time zones around the earth and working days as well as enough other requests this sometimes simply takes time.

      Sebastian

Apologies for the bump, point taken, won't do it again.

As to your reply, the mdule in question (AL) was one that a number of people on the forums used to retrofit the MFSW (although I guess in hindsight I should have asked them if they also had CC!).

DO you think it's the new module that isn't compatible then. I noticed from the wiki the following:

      Steering Column Control Modules:

There are 2 types of steering column control modules, each of them has 3 variants. The type is depending on the installed slip ring / clock spring, either use the part number of the currently installed module or the part number of the slip ring to determine the correct module for the vehicle in question. .

Type I (Compatible to Slip Ring: 1K0-959-653, 1K0-959-653-A)
      Lowline
      Part Numbers: 1K0-953-549
      Supported Features: None
      Midline
      Part Numbers: 1K0-953-549-A
Supported Features: Cruise Control, Trip Computer
      Highline
      Part Numbers: 1K0-953-549-B, 1K0-953-549-D, 1K0-953-549-AM
Supported Features: Cruise Control, Trip Computer, Multi-Function Steering Wheel

Type II (Compatible to Slip Ring: 1K0-959-653-C, 1K0-959-653-D)
      Lowline
      Part Numbers: 1K0-953-549-E, 1K0-953-549-AE
      Supported Features: None
      Midline
      Part Numbers: 1K0-953-549-F, 1K0-953-549-AF, 1K0-953-549-AP, 1K0-953-549-AQ, 1K0-953-549-BC
Supported Features: Cruise Control, Trip Computer
      Highline
      Part Numbers: 1K0-953-549-G, 1K0-953-549-AG, 1K0-953-549-AK, 1K0-953-549-AL, 1K0-953-549-BD, 1K0-953-549-BK
Supported Features: Cruise Control, Trip Computer, Multi-Function Steering Wheel

From this it seems that the "AL" module was designed for the highline cluster, and I have the midline unit in my car. Should I have gone for a "AF", "AP" etc. ?

Do you know if there is any coding that can be done to get it working please ?

Also on a final note, when I came to do the adaptation on the steering Angle Sensor (G85), I followed the Ross Tech Wiki, but have since realised that it stated:

      Sensor for Steering Angle (G85)
Important Note: This applies only for Models with Conti/Teves MK70 ABS/ASR. For Conti/Teves MK60 ABS/ASR/ESP look at Vehicle specific specific Procedures in ABS System documentation

I followed the procedure and it worked perfectly. However I have since realised that I do have the MK60 brakes and not the MK70. Even though the coding worked, I have no fault codes or warning lights, will I have screwed something up by using this technique ?

      Regards
      Andrew

      Sebastian,
I have been told to try the coding 0002022 (not 42). However I have the on board computer (albeit the half height midline one). Any chance this would work ?

      Theresias

I've been having a poke around my Scan and the label files for VCDS.

I've been looking into the VCDS label file 03G-906-016-BKD.lbl which is for my 2.0TDI BKD engine.

I noticed from near the bottom of the file there is a section on Coding II.

      In that bit it says:

      L00,Engine Control Unit (J248/J623) Coding-II
      L01,11463 = Cruise Control Activation
      L02,16167 = Cruise Control Deactivation

Am I reading this right that the CCS system can be activated or de-activated through the engine control module ?

As it's the engine I'm a little afraid of messing things up, which I why I thought I would speak to you first.

Also, within the same measuring blocks further up the file is the following:

      006,0,Cruise Control System (CCS)
      006,1,Vehicle Speed,(actual)
      006,2,Pedal Monitoring,,See Label File
      ; xxxxxxx1 = Brake Light Switch operated
      ; xxxxxx1x = Brake Pedal Switch operated
      ; xxxxx1xx = Clutch Pedal Switch operated
      ; xxxx1xxx = CCS enabled
      ; xxx1xxxx = ACC enabled
      ; xx1xxxxx = Main Switch
      ; 00xxxxxx = ACC/CCS Mode not active
      ; 10xxxxxx = Status override
      ; 01xxxxxx = ACC/GRA active
      ; 11xxxxxx = ACC blocked
      006,3,Accel. Pedal Pos.,Sensor 1 (G79),Range: 0.0...100.0 %
      006,4,Switch Monitoring,,See Label File
      ; xxxxxxx? = Stuck ON
      ; xxxxxx?x = Pressed OFF
      ; xxxxx?xx = Decelerate (-)
      ; xxxx?xxx = Accelerate (+)
      ; xxx?xxxx = Set (SET)
      ; xx?xxxxx = Resume (RESET)
; ?xxxxxxx = Stuck ON (Hardware)

Worth having a go or could I really screw things up if I mess ?

Can I be cheeky and ask one further question (which may or may not be related).

As my car has coming home / leaving home lights function, when I unlock the car, all the dash lights and the illumination for all the car switches and Nav all come on, except the ones on the steering wheel. The lights on the steering wheel only come on with the ignition irrespective of anything else. The buttons themselves also only work with the ignition on. Is this the correct behaviour ?
