    Thread: Project Jettahhhhh

    1. 01-08-2009 04:28 PM #1
I should have done this three months ago but here it is. I got hit with the coupe bug and finally found one in Delaware but there was a whole bunch of things the PO had to do before I even got the car. Like having the title to it. lol The car was in Delaware and it was registered in South Carolina and the PO had moved to Germany. But with the help of the PO's father, we got it done and held the car for me. Props to the PO's father for being patient with his son and helping me as much as he could with the sale.

      Good:
      No major rust

Ok, that's enough because everything else is coming off the car. lol

Here are some old pics from the PO. Some of ya'll might recognize the car.

      More pics of car.

This is the pic that made me go after this car:

      The Pickup:

      The work begins:

      Extra parts

I must be the luckiest MF'er. I have been scoring some great parts to get this together.

I have had two sets of widened steelies but had to get rid of one because I decided to go VR6. I actually was going to put a 1.8T in it at first but when I was looking up what I had to do, I decided not to. I even flew down to Ft. Myers Florida to look at one that was a project. But I needed a completed engine. Ran into some knowledgable people that gave me some great direction. Decided to eventually go VR6-T before spring.

      oooooo I can't wait!!!!

      Paint prep pics:

Looks like rust right??? Sike and naww! No rust. Just some sticky stuff that I did not want to touch with a bare finger. lol Notice the finger swipe showing paint only. Yeah baby!

Never knew the doors were red until we started stripping the car. But I found out that the car has power windows and locks on those red doors. Again...Yeah baby!!

Here are some more pics of the process. Like I said, I am a little behind with the pics. I went to see the car last night and mannnnn, the car is looking gooooooood. It might be done this weekend if I am lucky. I will get more pics tonight to post this weekend. I went with a OEM silver from the 85-90(?) Jetta's. The color came out just like I like it.

ok...I need a part if anyone can help. The kid who owned this car before me cut out the metal piece that separates the trunk from the cabin. I need that metal piece to weld back in there and I need it asap. If anyone is parting a Jetta (around 89) and can get that piece out, please contact me on IM. Here are more pics to show whats missing. You can see it in the pic above and ...

I thought about customizing my own but let's try this first.

First I want to thank those Vortex'ers (there are some loyal and great people on this forum) who helped me with parts when I could not buy them right away. None of these people were thieves (well if you are, shhhhhhh! lol) and they held stuff for me for up to and more that a month on some occasions. And some new friends I made selling some of my old parts like my first set of steelies. And the boxes of new OEM parts that are now obsolete I found in NY/NJ...I can't remember which one. But thanks man. Everything I was missing and could not get new, he had.

Now on to the donor car...Yeah baby!

The paint is coming out great. I am getting excited again to do this. I was having a lot of problems getting started because I had to be on someone elses time. The car was just sitting except me stipping it here and there between a busy schedule and my son. Whew I was glad to finally get it into a shop and start the painting process.

I was able to get a lot of parts brand new (seals, rad support, fenders, bumpers, and other sh*t). Yeah baby. I just got home from the shop but I took some pics of the car. I will post them when they are finished loading in Photobucket. Going to hit the junkyard tomorrow to search out little things like the piece under the rear speaker shelf. Hopefully I can find that piece. Or I will wait and get it custom made later this year.

Tomorrow the new from windshield is going in and the old glass is going in the rear. I was hoping to get a new rear glass I don't know where to get one with the defroster on it. If anyone knows, let me know.

      Next...the VR6 install...

Thanks man. I am still watching yours though. Those rims floor me. I am going to get my rims powdercoated next month after the five lug swap. I will try to keep this as updated as I can.

I apologize for not answering you back. As you can see now, I went with the OG silver from Volkswagen...but without the swirls that you see on many Jetta's that have the original paint.

Yesterday I stopped by the shop and this is what I saw. The floorpans are done, the body (not including the fenders and hood) is painted. I also had a new front windshield and rear glass installed. I got the two rears and the door glass tinted.

I also went on a road trip and found this:

      Very nice
