Thread: VF Engineering RSS32 Stage 1 Turbo Kit Pictures

  1. 01-15-2009 04:48 AM #1
    Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to share some pictures with you guys

  2. Here is the top view with everything back together.

  3. Seconday Air Injection ports machined into manifold.

  4. Upper downpipe showing V-Band break for ease of service

  5. Hardline to wastegate for durability

  6. Oil supply hose showing heat sleeve and heat tube. Also showing bracket and cushion clamp

  7. This complete assembly installs as a single unit

  8. Turbo is tucked up nice and tight against the back of the block where the hot parts are less exposed to parts that should not see glowing metal.

  9. In order to keep the O2 sensor at a more reasonable temperature we came up with these heat-sinks to help extend there life

  10. Since the manifold is divided internally the dual O2's keep diagnostics similar to a factory car.

  11. Location of turbo and design of exhaust manifold allows the use of the original double walled stainless steel heat shield. This is an extremely effective way to keep heat away from whatever is on the other side of the shield.

  12. Stainless hardline mounted with cushion clamp from bottom of the water reservoir to firewall

  13. VF-E oil supply banjo.

  14. Compressor location

  15. Oil supply banjo installed with Goodridge PTFE hose

  16. Top right shows top of water hardlines with AN adapters installed

  17. CV heat shield mounted to protect boot from melting

  18. Upper and lower support bracket shown. This two piece design makes clutch or transmission jobs much easier.

  19. V-Band shown where upper and lower down-pipe join. Having this break point allows much more service freedom than one piece designs

  20. Lower downpipe mounted. Showing CV joint heat shield.

  21. Support brackets shown.

  22. Some detail of Water hardlines.

  23. MAF showing stainless honeycomb flow straightener.

  24. Oil supply bracket to compressor housing.

  25. 44mm Tial Wastegate showing VF made heat shield.

  26. We are now doing installs and will start to ship kits in the next few weeks.

I know dyno, dyno, dyno, dyno We have been working very hard getting components production ready and will be making a separate post soon.

Let me know what questions you guys have, or if anyone wants to meet for a test drive.

    Edited to add more picts

  27. Compressor to throttle body pipe.

  28. Barely showing huge BPV (hooking up the second port reduced cracking pressure about 50% for better low load behavior)

  29. Plenum Block off for the leak prone hose that does nothing on the R32

  30. Support bracket break point shown

  31. Bottom corner of oil return hard line

  32. Showing break point and PTFE(teflon) hose

  33. No temperature sensitive rubber based hose in sight of manifold or turbine

    That looks extremely well designed.

edit: the MAF honeycomb flow straightener is very interesting. I wonder what temp. the heatshield above the CV joint boot, close to the hot side, sees.

Jeff... how close are those o2 sensors to the firewall??

Maybe it is the camera angle, but it looks like they might hit the wall when the car is launched at the strip.. other than that, it looks great!!

The CV boot WILL melt at the track, being that close to the turbo. Will put money on that...

If I were you, I would seriously consider fabing a larger CV heat shield. A melted CV boot will cause a fire instantly that close to the turbo.

Is this kit STOCK compression ratio? What boost does it run and ESTIMATED power?

    Working on this Friday.

Already have charge pipes, IC, and IC brackets mostly made. Need to final fit and make sure patterns are made, mount relay, pump and heat exchanger. Finalize water reservoir and take picts for instructions and assembly people.

Sounds like a lot! But will have some help from Nik and Mike.

I can see how you would say that looking at the image above. They are actually a pretty good distance away. Will look and see if I have an image that is more clear.

We have hundreds of dyno pulls which has very little actual wind movement in the area and have taken the kits off quite a few time to check for heat related issues and the CV boot and heat shield has looked fine. We will continue to keep an eye out for any problems of course.

No. We use a stainless steel spacer, and OEM MLS (multi Layer steel) gaskets.

    10-11 psi

About 375, cams seem to be worth 15-30 whp more and we are currently using NA style exhaust systems(what most people have).

Looks like alot of thought and time went into the building of this kit. I like all the little added heat shielded pieces, but I have to agree, I would be surprised if that cv boot heat shield will be able to handle all the heat that will be coming from that turbo.

Kit looks great though, now we want to see some numbers.

i have a similar honeycomb straightener on my intake (you can buy the honeycomb from photography shops), interestingly enough, it made a bigger difference by putting it after the sensor, rather than before.

The kit looks great! It's obvious a lot of time, effort and pride went into making this turbo package.
The devil is in the details and it looks like you've planned for all contingencies.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of these on the road.

Two thumbs way up for the pre turbo O2 sensors by the way. The previous design always bothered me.
