Thread: A big THANK YOU to VF Engineering for hosting today's SoCal R32 GTG!!!

  1. 01-25-2009 01:06 AM #1
A very huge thank you to the wonderful staff at VF Engineering for being such gracious hosts
today for 2009's first SoCal R32 GTG. Nik Saran and his crew put on a fantastic event for the
R32 die-hard faithful... including dyno runs, fantastic deals on VF/GIAC stuff and a great BBQ.
Jeff Moss (Torque Factory), who has worked so hard on delivering the VF turbo kits to market
was on-hand and was able to answer everyone's questions on R32 tuning. It was also great
to see so many people from GIAC on hand all day long... including Garrett himself! It seems
that the VF/GIAC alliance is as strong as ever and as a result, they're able to deliver a lot
of amazing products for our beloved R32s.

In addition to the stuff going on inside VF's impressive facilities... I was handed the keys to
Spencer's (IVR32) VF Stage I Turbo car running on 109 octane fuel. Earlier in the day, this
car put down 410fwhp on VF's dynojet!!! I spent some time in the afternoon giving ride-a-long
demo drives to those on hand... nothing too fancy, just some strong 2nd and 3rd (sometimes
4th gear pulls) to demonstrate the power delivery from the new VF turbo kits. And I'm sure
they'll chime in but I am happy to report that these kits deliver great power and a very strong
yet smooth power band. Even later, after we ran out of 109 octane and refilled with our
everyday California 91 octane fuel... the car still pulled hard and smooth, albeit, some of the
"oomph" was taken off due to the missing 18 octane points. Nonetheless, those who got a
ride in the 91 octane version were just as impressed.

Anyhow, it was a great day and it really got me excited for our huge SoCal R32 GTG and
Trackday coming up on Memorial Weekend, May 23 and 24th. It was fun to see the old
R32 crew and it's always great meeting new R32 enthusiasts.

Here are the photos from the event, including a photo of the dyno results. In addition to
the VF Stage 1 car putting down 410fwhp... props to R32EEEEK for getting over 400ft/lbs of
front wheel torque today!!! WOW! I wasn't able to dyno my Prius today because I realized
that the car had no way of holding a single gear (it only has park, reverse of drive modes)
but maybe next time. I drove the Prius to show to a potential buyer on the way to VF and
after a fun day of R32 shenanigans, I can't wait to re-enlist the Nebulizer for daily driving
    duties.

How many R32s today? Why bother counting when it's less than 149?
See you all in May... when we will count and break our world record!

Oh yeah, and VF had free dent removal all day for R32 owners... I've never seen it done
before but was BLOWN AWAY... this guy was a pro and will hopefully be at the big GTG in
May to fix all our dings/dents! Precision Dent Removal FTW! PDRSOCAL.COM

I wanted to thank VF-Engineering for hosting another great GTG for the R32 community. It was my first time at a group dyno-pull and I had a great time seeing (old) friends. Despite the rain it was a great turnout.

I had a great time. Very well organized GTG! Can't believe that more people didn't jump on the promotional pricing. Oh well, more fun for me!

Big thanks to Eugene for helping to organize. along with the laborious task of driving yet another turbo R32 all day long. Thanks to the Nik, Moss, and Sean for making a huge effort in producing a quality kit! I can't wait for the RSS kit to actually be ON my car.

Is this the Stg2 turbo? #'s for it? Does it have cams?

It sure is. They didn't dyno it at the GTG, but the specs listed on VF's site say 475/450 (BHP) so I'd think it should see ~380ish at the wheels. It's for sale too:

    http://home.comcast.net/~redr32/

The for sale post indicates 264 TT cams.

Can you come over sometime and help me get the extra awhp you seemed to get out of your Stg. II please? One of those unimpressive cars is mine In any case, it was fun Dynoing my car for the first time, or as my wife called it: "Participating in the d!ck measuring contest". My slow little Stg. II may not have been the fastest R of the day but it sure was the prettiest:

Neb, you must have read my mind when you saw this:

I have to give a big thanks to everyone who was there also. I had a blast seeing all of the old familiars. It was a pleasure getting to take a ride along in Tyler's (Wonderbucket) heavy assult HPA 425 beast My only comment to that thing is that it sucked... Thanks to Nik for hosting and for producing such great products. Being that I never get the R out of the garage, yesterday was the first road trip I've been on in awhile. The 66 mile one way trek was a nice little chance to really get the feel of my new VF mounts. I'm really pi$$ed at myself it took me a year to gather up the courage to install them myself. To anyone considering VF's motor mounts: "DO IT!!"

The new Turbo setup looks great.

It was a good thing Eric caught his pants, they almost fell off .

    Dyno madness .

The proof is in the cabbage. He actually made it!!! Thanks for the engine candy Cabby .

Vortex's Cyber Thug working the ladies... hey wait isn't that Mrs. TTigg??

The guys at VF had enough food to feed the R32 troops.

One crazy suped up Beetle S.

    The new "Flapper Mod"

Nick is amazingly fast with his hands.

    More of my baby.

My personal favorite picture of the day and it wasn't an R.

I'll see all of you nut jobs at the big GTG this year. Hope evryone had as much fun as I did.

Aside from Momma Nature throwing a hissy fit, it looked like a successful day. Congrats on the launch of VF's turbo line for the R32's...

I had a good time despite the rain. The only complaint I have is that I really did not get to see any of the cars other then the ones I was fixing. To Nik and the guys at VF for taking care of the Community.

It was a GREAT event...thanks to all for making it happen! The food represented probably one of the best BBQs that I'd ever been to, and that chicken was tasty! I had a couple dents removed as well, and the guy is a real pro...I couldn't be more happy with the quality work he did, and I recommend him to anyone. I didn't get to ride in the VF turbo R32 since it had run out of 109, and my girlfriend and I had to leave for the day. We stayed the night in LA before heading out to Snow Valley for snowboarding today (hence the snowboards that also made the trip to the gtg with us). Thanks again for everything! And save me a kit, because I WILL have one someday

  24. 01-26-2009 12:30 AM #24
    Hi Guys
Looks like a great day was had by all and the new turbo kits look impressive.

As a VF Stg2 owner, just a few quick questions:-

    1) Obviously figures were on a 2WD Dyno so was this done by disconnecting the Haldex?
    2) For the 2 VF Stage 2 cars that were run, no PSI was quoted on the whiteboard - I would be curious and interested to know what PSI was actually seen on the dyno and at what RPM? - would love some dyno plots showing PSI

Best regards from down-under - it's Australia day here and yesterday was 40 deg C (104F) so no snow to play in

    Cheers
    Steve

for an awesome day!!! but I somehow got stuck strapping cars to the dyno and unplugging Haldex units all day haha, j/k Nik

The rain was definitely not an issue as we got a very light drizzle at most all day. It was great meeting some of you for the first time and of course catching up with the homies I haven't seen in a while
