Hello all,
Today I started up my jetta (automatic, AZG engine) and it idled extremely rough. The check engine light came on within the first minute and started blinking. It then changed from a blinking light toa solid light. That prompted me to have it scanned at AutoZone where i got this code: P0301: Cylinder 1 Misfire. The car has 84k on it. What's going on? What can I do to fix it?
BTW...the car ran out of gas one this summer due to a mass area shortage, and this morning the car's gas light was on (I was going to fill it up).
Re: HELP! Cylinder 1 Misfire on 02 Jetta (Atl404sFinest)
Was it raining? Could be a bad plug, wire, coil pack. Do you know the mileage on the current plugs/wires?
The running out of gas issue would not have caused this.
Re: HELP! Cylinder 1 Misfire on 02 Jetta (jdl2001)
Nah...it wasn't raining. I had the plugs done at 40k. I also notice that sometimes the car sputters when I get off the freeway as well, and the RPMs jump a little....does this make it a little more specific?
Re: HELP! Cylinder 1 Misfire on 02 Jetta (Atl404sFinest)
if it is one cylinder only it will not be your coilpack. DO NOT REPLACE IT. check you plugs and your plug wires, just because you changed them doesnt mean they cant be bad, would you rather find out its a plug that you just changed now or after you spend $300.
Re: HELP! Cylinder 1 Misfire on 02 Jetta (Mr.Pickles)
Thanks! Can I change these plugs and wires myself if I buy them from the VW dealer? If so, what tools do I need for the process? I'd rather change them all.
What plugs were put in it 40K ago. I'd start with the plugs. Use the OEM plug. Be gentle removing and replacing the wires. You'll need a 3/8" ratchet, the correct spark plug socket, and a 6" extension. Search about pulling plug wires without the "special tool." http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1931981
^That might help.^
