Thread: Vanagon transporter converted to truck (pics)

  1. 02-06-2009 04:43 PM #1
I wanted to share a few photos of a project that my father has been working on....it started life as a transporter and was shaped into what you see before you. my dad did all of the modifications himself as well as a subaru 6 cylinder conversion....enjoy the pics

That thing is sweet as hell. It looks like it actually started as a Vanagon instead of a transporter. Was it a double cab? Any extension if the cab?

uhh.. he meant 7 pass vanagon (rather obvious ). some people refer to the vanagons or buses as "transporters" which is technically correct.

anyway that is totally cool...awesome job...and awesome welding skills!! i love how he shortened the sliding door to make the side door (it still slides??) and how he shortened the rear hatch..

your dad is a true master welder...
    awwesome work...

I just noticed...mirrors look suspiciously like those on my 08 Jeep JK. Nicely done, they look like they belong on a Vanagon.

My guess in the main headlights - a closer look I see the bottom of the headlight is red/orange?

Does anyone know anything about the mirrors? I like them for a non powered mirror option.

Head to your local Jeep dealer and ask for a set of mirrors for the 07-09 JK. Or try http://www.quadratec.com They may have aftermarket knockoffs available by now. Jeep is my otrher automotive love.

Do you have any more pictures of it, such as from the bed looking forward to the cab, and any build photos too.

I saw OP's truck in Hot vw's magazine this month. I love it!

I want to do something like this with a TDI engine but I dont have 400 hours for the body work.

Oh and here's a link to a crappy one...
