dunno, but google says: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=575781 & the only post in that thread that makes any sense is:"hanging a carabiner ring from ur tow hitch means racer and good luck in Japan. all my friends say the same thing on what it means"
so it must be some "jdm thing, yo!" and ricers copy it trying too hard to be part of the asian import car culture crowd.

I just figured out caribiner means "Stuffed ****ing animal" so in response, I do not know, but I am definitely getting a pedobear for my Jetta.

Once upon a time in Japan...the Bosozoku (violent running tribe) gangs noticed cement trucks had metal buckets hanging from the back to catch and cement that dripped out of the drum. they thought it would be funny to hang them from the back of their lowered cars to show how low they were. If the bucket dragged on the ground, it showed that they were like, super badass and tough. Then us round-eyes came along and ruined it. Kinda like drifting.![]()

the red ring for towing is just copied from race car regualtions that you have to have a red ring on the fornt and back so you can get towed fast when your car hits a wall or wrecks .
It is a cool ***** thing that adds about 95 HP .![]()

Pics? I've never seen it. I doubt it's a biner, at least not an aluminum one that climbers mostly use. There are steel ones, but I only use those for main anchor points if ever. I believe the steel ones are mostly for laborers like window cleaners.

Thinking tow hook, too. Like this?

That's probably what it was. I can understand how the OP would confuse that for a biner at a distance.
#12
nope defiantly biners...![]()
#13
wtf. I've never seen a carabiner hanging from a car here!

I like the idea of the drifting charm, the Japanese have great respect for symbolism, although most wannabe's take it to far to ruin something that was suppose to be subtle.
For example, the CD hanging from the rearveiw mirror, was this to symbolize that you were a recording artist or had a bitchin' cd deck, or something else.

I've never seen it here, had to Google what a Carabiner is. It's kind of silly but I have no qualms about it, as far as "modding" a car goes this is about the most passive, easiest to remove, and inconsequential of them all. I say let them hang their Dumbo's & Pop-Eyes![]()

It's always something.

you learn something new in the car lounge everyday! could somebody enlighten me on the duck thing? and the mooninites thing with the honduh bois? I know a honda kid who tried to talk to me about the mooninite thing and I had no idea. he claimed it was big in the honda scene. I have never seen anything about it.

I think I read (right here on the CL) that the carabiners were actually the handles from the overhead rails on Japanese subways and trains, that were stolen by naught bosozuku and displayed with abandon on their cars? Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Wow...absolutely f**king retarded thread...whatever happened to the good ol days of just making a car fast. Next thing you know single men will be hanging little stuffed vaginas from their cars to attract single female types
