Wow. By the time a Veyron hits 100MPH that thing is already pushing the 200MPH mark.2400Hp and street legal is just insane!

Quote, originally posted by The Kilted Yaksman » How on earth does that meet any noise regs? The site gives a pretty ridiculous standard for street legality. Keep in mind each state DOES have different versions of street legality. I know of a few 2000+ horsepower street titled tagged and driven vehicles. Our pre-'74 vehicles are exempt from emissions and we DO NOT have inspection. A daily driven 9 second street car if you know the right guys is the norm. The "extraordinary" cars are those that dip 8's and faster - that drove to the track. And they do exist.I know right now where there is a ~2700horse '67 Camaro - tube frame, MW modular rear end, dual chutes and all. It's a race car. That just happens to have a title attached to it.

No way that passes in Maryland. I get pulled over for a quiet-ass turbo back all the time.

Right, but it's a pretty ridiculous standard. Doors, mirrors, lights, wipers. Again, wow. What a struggle to keep all those attached, I bet applying that loctite to the wipers was one hell of a fab job.

Why do you have such an issue with this car? Are you so stupid you think this guy is out driving around town in a 2400Hp street rod in the rain for a loaf bread? Get real!
There is a definition for street legal. It fits. Get over it.

Oh, you mean like, he's not taking it to the store.Exactly, which is why I find it annoying that they feel the need to ham it up as if it's DD or it retained all of those parts during its high speed runs.

awesome car, but like it has already been said...they are strecthing it to call it street legal. just like the news keeps talking about the "pregnant man". there is no pregnant man. there is a pregnant woman on male hormone therapy sporting a goatee.

They didn't say that the ONLY requirements were doors, lights, etc. They said, and I'm quoting here:
Quote » The feat was the accomplishment of Saboury's much-sought-after goal of running a quarter-mile in the six-second range with a car that meets all requirements necessary to pass an inspection and be registered and insured in a state. That INCLUDES working headlights and tail lights, working doors, windshield wipers and turn signals. It is not a newspaper reporter's job to explain to non-auto-enthusiasts every last little detail of street legality. Nor would it be a good use of space in a sub-1,000 word "personal interest" piece. The only goal of this article is to explain to folks who don't follow drag racing just what this man has done and why it's special.
And frankly, it is not at all a "stretch" to call this car street legal. As Gary C said, the definition of street legal varies from state to state. This man did the research to find out just what was needed to be street legal in his state, and built a car that meets those very requirements . . . while posting sub-7-second 1/4 mile times. And it's not as though this car is a "ringer" that's just barely skating by as street legal. As mentioned in the article, it's got power windows, cupholders, and other luxury/comfort features. This is a bona fide CAR, not a wink-nudge "legal" race car with a license plate duct-taped to a fiberglass tilt front clip with painted-on headlights. In fact, I'd say this car is actually more street legal than a lot of the jalopies I see running in "street legal" classes at local drag strips . . . or wheezing along at 45MPH on the turnpike, one pothole away from being the world's first three-wheeled 1986 Celebrity.

Just watch the video. The timed runs were done with the car in full street trim ON STREET TIRES.
A car doesn't have to be a grocery getter to be legal to drive on the road.

Seems like theres a bit of LSX jealousy in that post. Have you ever tried to drive a 10 second car down the street? I dont think they're hamming it up at all. A 6 second car with street manners is insanely impressive, my car ran 10s on motor and a bit of spray and the cam didnt make any power at low RPMs and would die at the most awkward times.
The previous record holder was in England also an LSX power machine, its pretty cool stuff. I personally have had my fill of drag cars for the time being but Im sure its a wild pants wetting ride even for those who say drag racing takes no skill and so on... Im sure you know who those people are, everyone knows at least one.

Doing such a thing here will lead your car straight to an impound, if I lived elsewhere I would be more than happy to do such a thing. Nothing is more disgusting than a trailer queen. My dad used to attend Hot August Nights using a fuel celled mopar, he had to stop for gas at virtually EVERY gas station, that is called loving your vehicle.
Not really jealous of anyone who has a corvette, I believe you misunderstand where I am directing my disrespect.

Yes, you're right. Car culture is dead in California.

I can't express textually how fed up I am with Californians whining about their vehicular laws. You still have the single most CAR CRAZY state in the union, and your state's enthusiasts are still at the forefront of every performance and style trend that makes its way across the U.S. If you're not driving a 10-second car every day, it's simply because you lack the time/money/knowledge/ambition to do so, NOT because Der Gubernator wakes you up with a phone call every morning saying 'NO, YOU CAN'T BUILD THAT'.
(For the record, the only reason I'm not daily-driving a 10-second car is, well . . . I lack the time/money/knowledge/ambition to do so.)
