so as it turns out, not so bad.... the press in retaining clip that holds the 5th gear fork on, went away so 5th tried to go too. making it super hard to get between gears. so took the opportunity yanked that stumpy 16v 5th, took the 5th out of my old mk3 trany. now it shifts smooth and i have a taller 5th. all is well

cool. so the old 020 is not that bad after all as many people complain about it.

    Bump.

Awesome numbers, absolutely awesome. I love how it pulls right to 8k, soooo sick.

Did you ever get the bigger injectors and re-tune?

hmm, coming to this forum via the scirocco forum, what size pistons are those? is it 2.0 or bigger? also, i love the redline you've managed to come up with--how is it to drive? that is what is gravely lacking in this thread--i want to hear just what it feels like to rev this thing to 8000. and if this is a 2.0, how did you get over 200hp? is it mostly the ITB's? cams? porting? i realize it's all of the above but what is the biggest kick in the ass?

thumbs up from the 16v scirocco crowd though. i keep bitching about building an engine like this on the scirocco forum and everyone's always saying go for torque. so how do you like a high HP and medium torque engine? i love revs & i'm not trying to fault you in any way so forgive me if it sounds that way--just want to hear all the specifics of an engine like this.

Just read though your thread, mate. Very impressive.

I'm building pretty much the same thing only with a 1.8 KR and on 45 DCOE's. Nice to see some big numbers.. Gives me hope!

My thread is here: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.a....html If you are interested.

    Any updates?

  11. 05-28-2012 12:29 PM #221
no updates. not much has changed. messed around with the exhaust a bit. did a tt 2 1/2 for a while and it was far to loud. am now running the tt 2 1/2 with a super sprint rear muff. i have not yet gotten larger injectors. i did have a long talk with the guys at usrt about it and they seem to think that i should be ok with the injectors that i have if i up the pressure from 3.5 to 4 bar.
i am toying with the idea of switching to some dth itb's ether the badger5's or twm's just to clean things up a bit. if i end up keeping the gsxr's i will retune for the 4 bar later this summer.

i did get some of these

    as it sat

    1st goodbye bananas

    then rear seams

    cleaned up rear pan

rolled the rears about an inch

fixed a few dents here and there

then drove it 60miles to my buddies barn like this

    lots of sanding

    plastic up

    primed

    base

    clear

    plastic down masking off

back together after some color sanding and some buff

it still could use another buff. but considering this is the 2nd car i have painted, i an pleased with it

here are some pics from this weekends photo shoot.

  32. 06-29-2012 03:07 PM #242
    more new stuff

made a sub box to match the trunk and tie in the interior fabric

i liked the smoked look of the fluted cross hairs but the light output from them sucks, so i wanted to go back to the westy plus i love the westy front so
    stock westy light

bake at 300º for 20 min and after careful prying and such

    a bit of paint

    finished product

i also went with the chrome stripe bumpers

and parts for the next madness have started to arrive

  33. 07-09-2012 06:30 PM #243
Well they arrived this morning. Much to do now. I started fabricating brackets for the fuel rail. I have to drill and tap them for vacuume ports. I have to cut the filter base plate.... And some other things
In my quest to save money on shipping I bought the wrong filter plate and it won't clear the rail so I have to spend 40$ each for vstack extenders. But on a good note I got the 90mm stacks instead of the 120mm that badger5 recommends, as to fit in the filter. But with the spacers the overall stack length will be 130mm.
In other news I took best mk2 at volksmeet in ct this weekend.
