First off, the "platform" was either s13 or s14.
The s13 started in late 88 and ended in 94, the s14 ran from 95-97 here in the US. And Dank is right, it's spelled Silvia. Here in the US they were 240SX's

I'm in the market for a daily driver on the cheap and this one might just need a lil tlc. I emailed him tryin to find out if it has a clear title and if he has any more pictures. It might just be worth a look.

      same link twice?
at that price why not. 1.8T would be easy to work on in a passat bay im sure. and u could easily get a few extra horses out of it with a chip and stuff

That Passat doesn't look too bad, or sound bad either. If he has problems with the "door" it could be from the door locks. They're known to be pretty faulty and cause all sorts of problems with the alarm if one micro switch does bad.

I vote Honda for a daily! $500 and 2 years, I might have put $200 into it on general maintenance items, i.e. tires, plugs, wires, fluids, ect. The only item I have had issues with is the damn AFTERMARKET sunroof. It likes to stick open from time to time and is constantly in need of tightening, even after loc-tite'ing the adjustment screws.
For a daily, get something that you can't or don't want to mod, just something to drive. Then you can waste-errr-spend you hard earned cash on your projects.

woops, I guess I accidentally posted up the same link twice. I meant to put this on there
      http://charleston.craigslist.o....html

or even this one would be nice
      http://charlotte.craigslist.or....html
I think you're right that it would be an easy thing to work on and that the door is probably an easy fix. Not sure if I want to do anything to the car because I'm gonna make it a daily driver, then again, I always say things like that about cars and apparently can never stick to it.
Good to know that there are some known issues w/ the doors, hopefully it is just a bad sensor, not sure how much they are but one for my mk3 is only 10 bucks so I hope its close to that.

low initial cost and little maintenance cost, I think that a honda might actually be worth it then. I really only want a cheap car to drive so I don't put so many miles on the jetta. That lil thing is up to 151xxx miles now, but still pulling strong

You think the 2.8 is unmoddable? Bwhahaha. Buy a BMW 2.8L and you'll be even more unmoddable. A chip, exhaust, and that's about it. Yeah, you can buy turbo or supercharger setups, but they run close to $10k for a "kit". That 2.8L of yours is a TURD! A basic PES supercharger setup only brings it up to 300hp, but in wagon and quattro forms, it's not enough to wake the beast up.

      i know.....
....but....when the turd dies, i am thinking of buying a 3.2, tossing some turbonium on it and haveing a fun little beast ...or even thought about doing a 2.7tt swap!

edit..it maybe a bit of a turd, but its actually a nice daily....i have driven it up north a few times now, and it does pretty well in the mountain....i can still roll 85 thru the WV turnpike....
