odd you chose mk2s, and not the ten billion other cars with round headlights.

I said Mk2's because, a lot of people do the "single round conversion" on Mk2 Jetta's.

how is that Odd? we are on VWvortex and that photoshop is obviously trying to emulate a MK2 single round setup.

This needs to be done far more tastefully and I think it would look great.

out of all the pics on this thread... this one looks the best.. i would do that... not the onther ones tho... sexy

except the the headlights need to be aligned.. it looks goofy... the way its fitted looks equivalent to a person with a lazy eye

was there also a a rat-style mk3 that had single rounds? but with a grill the fits over the light?

Im gonna attempt this as I have an extra busted mk3 Jetta and Golf grille laying around and 3 mk2 quad round grilles.
And I have the mk2 lights and Im going to see if I can get them to match up somhow on the mk3 core support to drill new holes to attach them with.
Ill have to cut the grilles apart to get the slats but Im going to try and make a decent looking one.
I personally liked the first one the best.
Its got a Golf lower piece from a mk3 and it looks like the mk3 golf grille was extended and then mated and fused to ABT headlights...

hmmm. i have a set of votex rounds, that i could cut up to make such a thing...

  12. 03-26-2009 10:50 AM #47
Thanks for the help guys. Once I find gainful employment again, I might have to give this a shot. I do like the first one a lot, and the Jazz Blue one could look sharp if the headlights were straightened just a bit.

Maybe I will draw inspiration from our Bavarian Brethren...

    photochopped.

    would be sweet though.

It doesn't look too difficult to make though. Set of dual rounds, a few grills and plastic weld away! I think it looks pretty sweet too. If I had the parts, I'd give it a shot

yeah it does, i dunno why no one has even done it yet, with all the shaved bays and ridiculous body work and mods out there in the mk3 world it just amazes me that no one has done this yet

A couple of months ago I got really excited about doing this. I was planning on going to the junk yard and fitting various grilles and light set-ups (mk2, bmw, old volvo...) to see what would fit and what modifications would be necessary. ...this gives me some motivation to finally do it!

I was thinking the same thing. Can someone photochop an E30 grill and lights onto a GTI. I would like to see if that would look ok.

you guys expect perfection from photoshop? its to give you a general idea, if you actually did that it would look absolutely nothing like that picture, it would look more like the black and mullberry cars.

someone just do it already, it would probably take a couple bills and a weeks time to get it all to sit right

i always thought that homage needed to be paid to the original GTI round headlight look, and the mk3 stock look pretty much moved away from it... i love those pics of the mk2 grills on the mk3. i have a friend who does prototyping for the auto industry who will help me soon with a custom bumper project of mine... i could ask him if hes interested in producing a mk2 look alike grill for the mk3. he told me that we can make copies for sale...

boy what if a noob was to produce something as cool as that? maybe i could live past noob status?

i agree that the golf hood with single rounds looks stupid.. but with a jetta hood i think it's possible for this to look absolutely sick as uckhhh.

I would go with splicing 2 2-piece Vento grills to get the same effect as the multi-slat retro type grill, then use fiberglass to mold half a dual round on each side to get the look. If money was no object of course

The difficulty would be recessing the grill to get that mkII look. I wish I had more money to play with...i'd give it a shot.
