I thought I edited that last night to say "lean" not rich. Either way backing out the Pilot screw will enrich the mix. I going to assume you used OEM parts for the carb rebuild? Third party kits tend to be problematic for some bikes. Especially when it comes to the needles. If everything is set to factory and you fixed your coolant leak the only thing left is dialing in the carbs. Typically the factory dont want you touching the fuel mixture screw but you end up having to for a rebuild. If I was in your shoes I'd put the mix screw back to factory and back the pilot screw maybe a 1/4-1/2. That circuit controls 0-1/4 throttle. Then the Main and needle jet takes over. You can use my gauges again if you want. I may use them Sunday but doubt it.

The bike dont have intake or exhaust mods that would require larger than stock jets right?

stock intake and exhaust. piolt screw is 2.5 turns out should be 2-2.5 from what ive found. i may bench sync the carbs to try for a better starting point before i try the guages again. gunna see if i can get a couple mechanic buddies over to help mess with it and see if im on the right track. also gunna try and check the battery to see if its toast. im starting to think its no good.

Lol, its been pretty crazy thats for sure! I picked up another job too. Helping an older german fella sell off all his aircooled and watercooled stuff. If ANYONE needs any aircooled or MK1-MK2 parts lmk. He has over 100 beetle/bug motors, bunch of tdi/gasser stuff, porsche stuff, even an Original rotary motor from NSA. I am going to make a thread of the stuff. I am also picking up a MK1 Jetta coupe from him. This finally gives me a chance to use my plethora of 8v parts and dual webers!

His name is Hans, lives out in Momence by me.

Heres a vehicle run down off the top of my head.

    2 Porsche 944's.
    1 Diesel Rabbit
2 Rabbit pickups, one has pretty bad rust damage though.
2 Dune buggy frames with everything but engine.
    1 Fiat 500
    1 VW Thing
1 1951 Pop out turn signal thingy bug. ( lol )
    3-5 VW bugs pre 1970
    3-5 Vanagons, 1960-80
    3-4 Diesel Mercs
    2 MK2 golfs
    1-2 MK2 Jettas
    1 MK1 jetta

Other than the cars, he has a bazillion parts. Anywhere from corvair swaps to rotaries to carb setups and blah blah. Mostly OEM stuff, but he has a toooooon of rare stuff left. At one point he literally had 300 cars on his property, but he was forced to get rid of them all.

    Thanks by the way!

I know hes not gonna let the bug go for nothing, since they fetch alot, but I will work with him on it. We are gonna discuss pricing after we organize some stuff, alot of stuff we will be sandblasting/rust proofing as well. The green/tan leather caddy is being sold whole, the other one I cannot remember what the tailgate looks like. I will get back to you and take a ton of pictures.

Congrats on the new addition to the family Steve!

I been thinking about trying to get a floor pan off a bug thats in good shape. The pan in my T-bucket, bucket is not too good and Speedway only seems to sell fiberglass. Since I got a steel bucket I want to stay steel. If you have any CHEAP ideas for a pan I would deff. like to hear them.

On another note, "new" addition to my house:

It's my Mothers, so I'm gonna make it run (hasn't ran in almost 10 years!) for her and my wife, since it's auto and all that. Wish me luck!

I didn't have luck finding a steel pan for the 27' T-bucket for a good price. If I had the tools I'd just make my own but I'm not buying a bead roller to sit in my garage for years untouched after the project.

I am going to make a thread of the stuff. I am also picking up a MK1 Jetta coupe from him. This finally gives me a chance to use my plethora of 8v parts and dual webers!
I ran into Hans a couple winters ago, out between Essex and Custer Park, I think he owns a farm out there too, Hoff View Farms or something like that. It had snowed the day before, I was kinda lost, then an 18 wheeler pulled up and in a heavy german accent, "How much you want for that hunk of steel?" Never forget that, I was driving my mk5 jetta through huge snow drifts, trying to get to a friends house. He told me he was the first VW mechanic in the area and still had a shop in Momence, I still have his phone number.

Hahahahaha, whats funny about that is I can even imagine his voice/accent saying that! He always gives me crap and hits me. He actually got rid of that farm, and is now just in Momence. He has been working on VW's/Porsches/etc pretty much his whole life, he knows ALOT of stuff. Don't ask him about modern FI or fuel injection though. He is actually getting a new number, so the one you have doesn't work at the moment. I can get you his new one if you want though.

Thank you! I know, the first month is gonna be me home all day watching the baby, which is fine with me. After that, its MK1 Jetta coupe madness!

looking at all the pics and vids from worthersee this year man there is some harrrrrdcore siht out there.

ill get to that show some day.

my life would be soo much better if i had a truck that could pull a 2 or 3 car trailer and if i had a boat too lol.

I shoulda bought a truck first instead of all these stupid cars lol. Now I'm not sure if im getting this passat. I really need a truck that gets good gas mileage and can pull something.

been getting horrible oil smell from the car lately. did some reading and looks like i need to check the pcv for leaks. i show no signs of oil drips on the ground, however i do know my pan is rusting out and needs replacement. Oil level shows no changes.

buddy said maybe saturday he can come out and look at the bike. really been wanting to ride. i need to get this fixed. picking up a pair of joe rocket gloves and boots on friday so ill finally have all my gear for when i take the msf course on the 15th.
