I brewed another batch. This time it was an amber belgian strong ale made with Duvel yeast. OG was 1.070. Challenger, Saaz and Hallertauer hops. I have high hopes for this brew.

~1g of Grape Mead I brewed a few months back. I let it bulk age in the 1gal jug I used for fermenting and then racked it into a 1gal jug I painted to say "GRAPE MEAD" on it. I am going to make this again but with a little less honey to better suit the tastes of others. However, After a glass and a half most of the bite goes away and it just tastes like grape juice


I lost my OG notes on this but per the recipe it should be 13-14% ABV.

the only thing missing is the amount of steeping grains, if you find his AG recipe it might have it there

Bottled up the Thai Basil Ale in hopes that it will be ready for the home brew competition in a few weeks. It was good. It had a nice light thai basil taste upfront with a good hop finish that wasn't too over powering. It's only about 5%, but I wanted a summer brew.

CL/homebrewtalk.com are my two sources. Shipping is way expensive on those things new or otherwise. Normally I just hit the home brew store.

So I found out that I am not moving in the next month and a half which gives me time to brew another batch of beer next weekend.

I have no idea what to do next. My buddies and I do ribs/pulled pork/brisket/etc all summer so I'd like something (an ale most likely) that will go great with BBQ.

However, I'd like something other than a blonde/pale ale/cream ale/porter as well have done those before. This will be our fourth all grain brew.

Any ideas?

^^^^ Very cool. I thought about growing hops but figured that right now it's better for me to buy them from the LHBS. I will probably be moving before the end of the summer.

The thought of doing a saison has crossed my mind.

I think the plan right now is to do a nine or ten gallon batch of white and split it between three five gallon carboys. One carboy will be the control brew with no addatives and the other two will be spiced/fruited.

Two weeks after this coming weekend we are brewing again. That would be a good time to do a farmhouse/saison.

Hey all, just saying hi

I've been brewing with my coworkers for about a year and a half now. There are 5 of us and we try to brew 5 gallon batches every week, or every other week. Two of the guys have been brewing for like 15-20 years and so they have about 50-60 perfected recipes for all kinds of beers.

Some of my favorites that we make are:
Coriander amber ale
Hefeweizen
Cascade ipa
Bon por nicole (pumpernickle ale)

Plus I've been able to create several recipes myself:
Max IPA (hercules double ipa clone, but came out a bit smoother and easier to drink than hercules)
Holden Caufield, full grain rye marzan (haven't opened this one yet)

Would love to trade recipes and other info with folks. I'm still a newb to brewing, but I have access to guys with lots of knowledge, and who are willing to experiment too

Very cool! I didn't end up brewing on Sunday like I had hoped to. However, that gives me two more weeks to plan my next brew day.

I am thinking of doing nine gallons of an Allagash White clone and splitting it between three five gallon carboys. One will be the control brew that is made per the recipe and the other two will have various fruits added in. I figure I can make a three way split manifold with stuff available at the home brew store. That way I'd be able to avoid kinking the hose and spilling wort all over.

Looking into picking up a starter kit for my dad and have a question.
Are the kits from Midwest Supplies a good way to go?
I have heard good things about them but he can be a little picky about somethings.

Well, if your dad is picky I would go with THIS kit along with a copper wort chiller and a 5 gallon brew pot at a minimum. That'll get him started and allow him to make some decent beer with the ability to upgrade pretty easily.

I brewed with a 5 gallon pot for years...then I went all grain and now have an 8 gallon pot. However, still use the same wort chiller and other equipment.

As for brewing regularly, he is an avid drinker who has been wanting to get into home brewing for awhile. He has a few friends that brew and he has been envious of them. Now that they are redoing the kitchen, he will have all the space he needs brew as much as he can*depending on work*.

When doing extract kits, I think you only do about 2 gallons in the boil and dump that into 3 gallons in the bucket. A chiller isn't really needed at that point. It's definitely useful if you're boiling 5 gallons or more though.
