Thread: New Headlights Installed

  1. 04-09-2009 11:23 PM #1
    Every forum that I read about headlight install made it sound pretty hard. it was simple and took and hour and a half.

    First thing to do is take the grill off, there are two screws at the top corners of the grill. Make sure that you pull straight up otherwise there are two plastic tabs that you can break.

    Right under the grill are four screws that are torx t27 remove those four screw and then there is one flat head screw in the direct center of the underside of the bumper. Remove the fender screws that are in the wheel well, you can do that buy just turning the wheel inward. Remove the foglights

    The bumper at that point should just pull off

    One thing that I did not read in any other headlight install is that it is easier to pull the headlights out if you have removed what I think is the radiator support (correct me if I am wrong).

    There are four screw holding the headlights in, two on the very top, and then two back behind the lights (there is a plug on the top of the engine support that you can pull to get to one of the screws, the other is easy to get to).

    From there just do the reverse to put it back together. there are two tabs on both sides of the bumper, the bumper has to slide BACK into the tabs inorder to line up right.

    very nice write up. i like the lights a lot, and i am usually not much for an aftermarket headlight.

    congrats.

    Is there any wiring that needs to be modded on these for the B5.5's?

    No there are no modds, I thought that there was going to be, so I baught a bunch of electrical stuff that I did not have, you unplug the stock headlight and plug in the aftermarket one, the only thing that I did not like about these head lights is that they come with an H1 bulb

    OK, got ya. Yeah, I hate those H1 bulbs too, there so tiny and don't shine too much light.

  8. 04-10-2009 11:26 AM #8
    they look sick man, i orded mine and they should be coming next week.

  9. 04-10-2009 11:31 AM #9
    I really like those..
    I can't do the H1 though. Already have H7 HID's not about to change them, takes an already spendy headlight and pushes it over the top

    Damn fine looking though..

    you might be able to modify the the headlight to fit another bulb. I think that HID's would get too hot and melt the housing, I dont know though!

    That is Silverstone Grey, Stonehenge was only offered in 2004 and had a touch of green to it.

    Kinda looks like a TT....very nice!!! I take it those are the Black, not the clear headlights I think I'll be getting those when I get a B5.5!!

    I have a 2003 B5.5 canadian Passat and installed these headlights.

    Mine are kinda acting backwards

    Day = headlights
    night = headlights + LED

    I would like it the other day around.

    Can I just switch the LED wires with the headlight wires or will this cause isses due to different voltages etc.. ?

    Any info would be greatly apreciated, I am googling around and every says that these are a string pulg in for B5.5 but it's not what I'm experiencing.
