This is an awesome service--thanks so much for your help in advance!I had so many shops (and dealers) say they wanted to charge me $80+ to get my radio working merely because my battery had be disconnected. Turns out that Wal-Mart carries the radio removal tool for $5
You are enabling my love of music!

I'm sorry for my ignorance...but what does PM mean?
#14
it's an "IM" specifically sent to you. just click on the "IM" button in the post.
#15
PM back--I know I probably sound like an idiot because it's something simple, but if my radio only has the numbers 1-6 for presets, how do I enter numbers like 0 or 7 for the code?
#16
You use the first 4 buttons from the left, push them one at a time to fill in the code. The first button is the first # in the code, etc.
Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard
Overheard on 27 June 07, one lady to another when they saw my Harli in a parking lot at West Point, "maybe he found it on the clearance aisle at the Volkswagen dealer"

Veedubster, you rock! However, I find it sad that the local dealership didn't return either of my phone calls. If it wasn't for forums like this and good peeps like you, we'd be in a mess of trouble. Thanks again.

Next question regarding unlocking radio. I have a '91 Cabriolet with a Heidelberg VII radio. The radio appears to be unlocked (thanks to the code provided by veedubster) but there continues to be no sound. When I turn the radio on I get a low bass popping noise that seems to indicate the speakers work, but no sound coming out when I play the radio or tape deck. The fuse on the back of the radio is good. Other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.![]()

does that stereo system have an amp? I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge on this one but at the dealer I'm a bit blind to the older cars. we only work on newer cars so that one is a bit too old for me to know about. if it has an amp it might be a bad amp or bad connection to the amp. another problem might be that the speakers are blown. also where did you get the radio? or when was the last time the radio worked right? i need to know as much as possible to give a better diagnosis.![]()

Radio is original to the car and worked fine until battery replaced. I entered the code you gave which took it out of SAFE mode. But the only sound I get out of the speakers is the POP when turning on the radio. Stations change, cassette plays, but no sound. No mods to the original radio or speaker system whatsoever. I'll try keeping the radio on for a couple of hours and then reenter the code just in case I made too many bad attempts previously. But I did this just this morning.Any other suggestions? BTW, thanks for the help.

if you have already entered the code and it took it out of safe mode then there is no way that i know of to re-enter the code. i think the best thing to do would be to try another speaker. another option if you are wanting to try re-entering the code is to disconnect the battery and then enter the code again. that might work. if you do that though you should do what is called a capacitive discharge. this seems stupid but you would be surprised at what this has fixed for me in the past. what you do is disconnect both battery cables and then touch them together WITHOUT THE BATTERY CONNECTED. i cannot stress that enough i have actually had people misunderstand me and do this with the battery connected. anyway this with take all of the extra electricity out of the circuit by discharging the capacitors. this totally clears the the built in memory of electronic devices. this has fixed a lot of cars for me so try that and then re-enter the code and see what happens. hope this helps. without being there its kind of hard to diagnose a car.![]()
