    Hi Josh,
Purchased a used car; (not sure if the radio is the original), after a power failure the radio is locked up. We have tried the code listed in the original owner’s manual but no luck.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The car is a 1997 Jetta.
    Car VIN#: 3VWRA81H0VM024081
    Radio Ser#: VWZ9Z7V3863141

Thank you so VERY MUCH! do you have any idea how or what i need to press to be able to enter the code? we already checked the wiring - all good.. would fuses have anything to do with it? Again thanks a million, you are greatly appreciated....

here is how it works with your code

    code: 0 3 0 8

    radio station preset buttons: 1 2 3 4

in your case you press button 1 on the radio 9 times to get it to roll around to 0. then press button 2 on the radio 3 times to get it to roll over to 3, and so on.

then once you have the code entered and you can see it on the screen press and hold the scan button that points up.

Doesn't the first position only go up to 1, so it is either a 1 or a blank space for 0.

Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard

Overheard on 27 June 07, one lady to another when they saw my Harli in a parking lot at West Point, "maybe he found it on the clearance aisle at the Volkswagen dealer"

Hey thanks again for your help...
ive been driving around with no sounds for a whole year!!!
But heres an FYI for anyone else who might neet it....
my radio would not even turn on, we removed the battery agian hoping it would reset....no luck! so i called the dealer, and amazingly they did help... anyhow if the radio does not turn on at all - remove the radio in the back it has a small fuse - replace it - thats all i had to do.. no radio code was needed... oh yeah i didnt have the key for it either but i read thru and another person you had helped out mentioned walmart.... they only cost $4..
    anyhow thanks so much!!!!

on the older cars yes the first position is only a 1 or a 0 but on his 2003 gti the radio is different and the first position has a full range of 0-9

I may have missed it, Can I find out my radio code while its in the car. Mine works fine but I would like to know how to check it.

  21. 05-21-2009 08:46 PM #126
unfortunatly no there is no way of retrieving the radio code from the radio. the only way to get the radio code is to be able to log into vw's radio code database with the vin and serial number. if you have your owers manual there is a place in there to write down your radio code so that you dont have to get it again.

  22. 05-21-2009 09:51 PM #127
    Thank you so much!!!!

  23. 05-21-2009 10:16 PM #128
I guess I'll have to look in the manual. May be one of the things I had no clue what it was. Thanks much

    Hi Everybody

I have a little problem like the others VW owners. I had to change my battery and the consequence was that the radio is in SAFE mode now. I don't have the card or the code on the owner's manual. If somebody can help me to get that number it will be great and I can pay for it.

you need to post up the vin for your car and the vwz number of the radio and then i can get the code for you.

Don't need a code right now - bought an RNS-510 from a reputable source and the code isn't written on a nice and neat VW radio code card. Is it possible to get blank code cards to write it on neatly, as was done for the MFD2 that came with the car?

... but I will get in touch with you in the event that the supplied code isn't correct.

the only wat that i know of to get another radio code card is to buy a new owners manual for the car.

the only way that i can get your code for you is if you get the vin for your car and the vwz number of the radio. look at some of the other posts to see what the number should look like. once you get me that info i can get your code.
