I was in the town I grew up in this weekend for a family illness. the only place to buy ANY music in a 50 mi radius was Wal-Mart, Shopko, Goodwill and a couple other thrift type stores. obviously I didn't participate this year.

    did anybody acquire anything interesting?

  2. 04-20-2009 12:17 PM #2
I hit up a few local shops and got 3 CDs. No exclusives or anything, seemed to be all vinyl as far as that goes...and I don't have a functioning turntable. So I got these CDs at 20% off:

Irepress - Sol Eye Sea I (new)
June of 44 - Four Great Points (used)
Rumah Sakit - Rumah Sakit (used)

I also ordered a bunch of cheap stuff yesterday at wherehouse.com (20% off and free shipping) and Amazon Marketplace.

    Sorry for your family illness.

I really want to like Okkervil River but, they kind of bore me.

This'll be my first time participating in Record Store Day, I've checked and Philly has a few stores participating.

What can I expect? Cheaper/exclusive material? Either way I've got some money put away already, trying to make it to at least two stores.

I think I am going to have to try and get The Moon and Antarctica and Dear Science so I can try and remix some of my favorite songs.

My name's on a copy of The Moon and Antarctica and will be picking it up Saturday as well. Also going to pick up Blood Bank - I've avoided it till now because it's $15 for four songs, but it's Bon Iver - I have to.

Just got home with my plunder!

Was waiting outside one of my local shops at 8:30 this morning and was 21st in line. I know this number because they were only allowing 20 people in at once

I was still able to get what I wanted and a whole lot more

    (in relative order of importance)
Joe Strummer & the Mescelaros (both albums) (!!!!)
The Flaming Lips Darkside of the Moon
Elvis Costello & the Attractions 7"
    Soundgarden 7"

Green Day Kerplunk reissue (wasn't released today but figured what the hell?)

And a free grab bag of CD's, stickers, pins etc etc

Meet some great people standing around hungover for 2 hours too

edit: I really wanted the Beastie Boys, Buddy Guy, and John Lennon releases but the shop only got a couple copies and they went quickly

missed the Strummer, Springsteen (not for me, for a friend), Gorillaz, and Beastie Boy stuff. Picked up Wilco, 2 Lennons (my store got 40!). By the time I got there lots of stuff was gone.

Didn't think to ask about the Joe Strummer stuff. Dangit. I was ~20th in line and I got there 30mins before the store opened.

The Wilco Box set looked very tempting but it was a bit out of my price range

My Streetcore Strummer album came a bit warped

It still plays great (for now) but it looks like poo wobbling around on the turntable.

Any flattening tips or just enjoy it for what it is?

Regardless of what genres of music we like. I have to say it is good to see people in this thread showing support yesterday. I spent over a hundred dollars and enjoyed some instore performances. I was hoping to get to Rock and Soul too, but that didn't happen.

I didn't see a Wilco box set But then again, I already have a few Wilco 180g records, so best I didn't. I did pick up 8 records, and got to see a couple live performances I really wanted to see (Dan Mangan and Ladyhawk).

Didn't make it to NYC as planned, my ride home bailed. Luckily I was able to find the Royce da 5'9" vinyl and special ordered the Skyzoo record from another store.

I went a day early. Picked up Scratch My Back by Peter Gabriel because I'm a sucker for cover albums as long as it's someone interesting and all the interpretations are done in a unique way. I also bought The Modern Lovers self titled debut put out a few years after it was recorded. It was Jonathan Richman's first band and they are great

Really wanted the Surfer Blood/Holiday Shores split but they didn't have it. Apparently only like 12 stores got it. Picked up the Coconut Records 7" instead.
