I went a day early. Picked up Scratch My Back by Peter Gabriel because I'm a sucker for cover albums as long as it's someone interesting and all the interpretations are done in a unique way.

That is an interesting album, I received a promo copy a while back.

On saturday morning I grabbed a bunch of random stickers & promos, a Record Store Day shopping bag and a gag Chris Brown calendar for the gf's cubicle.

LCD Soundsystem - Pow Pow 12"(single sided - WTF?)

The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing The Dark Side of the Moon

TV On The Radio - Dear Science

Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica

When it comes right down to it, it kind of sucks that we have to have an official "day" to try to encourage people to buy CDs/LPs, and what not.

Someone told me that music sharing is at an all time low, not sure if it's true, but it's probably because everyone is buying off of itunes these days, which is unfortunate.

All you know is what you read on the internet, do you even buy albums or CDs? You have this pretentious blog and then you go after people on here about personal musical preferences. Your discussion is not welcome here because only hipsters listen to records and people that have bad musical taste shop on record store day. When you decide that you can be civil and respect other people's tastes in music regardless of what they are then I will give you a pass. Until then, everytime you provoke me or another music lover-----------music dies just a little bit more.

The industry needs solidarity not serperatism or "I heard this on the interweb so it must be true." I am glad they have a special day and release rare and special editions, have freebies, and in store appearances. I think it is great for the industry.

    new post, fresh start

I have insider info that the Decemberists are working on a live EP recorded at an in store recently in Maine. They are hoping to have it ready in time. Some material from the King Is Dead and Grateful Dead cover "Row Jimmy" which is the B side to January Hymn. Great ****ing song even if you aren't a Deadhead.

So you just because you trash me in another thread, you can come into MY thread and expect immunity? Not a ****ing chance. I will leave you alone when you stop attacking and passing judgement on other music lovers.

    Fixed.

If you want to ruin your own thread, that's on you. I was simply saying it's a shame so many people purchase their music digitally instead of hard copy, and then you try to call me out on not buying CDs. You are a ****in weird dude.

here a link to the page on the RSD site that lists most of the new releases

    http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases

Pat- the GD cover didn't make the Decemberists EP, but the Louvin Brothers cover did, they close the EP with "If I Could Only Win Your Love." 7 tracks in all (with the first 6 all being off the new album)

I would do the same, if not for the fact that there aren't any record stores in my area anymore.

    I just read this.

It couldn’t get into US stores in time, but the band wanted to benefit a good cause and make some US based peeps happy at the same time, so in a very rare move, www.recordstoreday.com will be selling an extremely small amount of these 7” singles online, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross Japan Relief fund. These bad boys will go on sale the morning of Record Store Day, April 16, at 6 AM Eastern.
Special rules will apply to this sale on www.recordstoreday.com:

*Sales will be made to US physical addresses only
*One “Make Some Noise” 7” single per order
    *One order per household.

The only thingI wanted that I didn't get is the Ryan Adams & The Cardinals 2x7" and The Dangermouse 12". I did get tons of free promos for djing though. I haven't even listened to most of it yet, pics to come.

The wifey and I went over to Laurie's Planet of Sound (in Lincoln Square in Chicago) on Record Store Day.
The band Vee Dee was playing in store. They're self-described as late 60's psych-rock meets 70's punk-rock. I think they did a fair job achieving that kind of sound live.
There were lot's of people were there who seemed to know the band and their work pretty well. I'm wasn't familiar with them though.
