Ya it was pretty easy to make. I spaced 4 4x4's 6 feet apart, planted them two feet in the ground. I used one bag of cement per post. I bought some 6 foot stained boards from home depot for 1.20 each. I placed them horizontal and leveled the the lower ones then just stacked them up from there. I used the same 6 foot boards for the top trim and to cover the joints on each post. all in all it was less then 100 bucks for 24 feet of fencing. Since I left the old fence up I used my nail gun to build it. I used 2 inch nails on the whole thing. If you want to know more let me know.

Quick question about the fence. How did you get the board mounted up? Is there two boards on each sides on the 4x4's? Just curious how you mounted up the boards.

it appears to me as if he cemented in the PT'd 4x4 posts, nailed in the board horizontally and then covered up the transition which sits right on the post my nailing in a post on a lateral angle.

Finally got my counters done. Next up is the kitchen floor.

replace those blinds with some faux wood blinds or a different window treatment and you'll see a huge difference with how much more 'rich' the room will appear.

also, freshen up those cabinets with a fresh coat of white acrynamel - they carry it at the Miller Paint store around Portland here......

You know I really wanted to get those type of blinds, but my wife was busting my balls about it. Ill get em anyway LOL.

Ya cabinets were coming up too, thanks for the recommendation on the paint. I was trying to figure out a good paint for them. I'm also going to update the hardware.

Any time.....the acrynamel is best rolled on with a foam roller in very thin coats. Allow each light coat to dry and cure for 24 hours before laying another. It takes time, but the end results are well worth it. The paint will be very hard and very resistant. Below are a couple before and afters of mine. Cabinets are original 1978.

I installed the new blinds and man it makes the room look better. I also installed a new light. I still need to paint the wood I had to put up and add the trim ring.

So I haven't done much around the house, but I'm thinking about painting my cabinets a dark brown. What do you guys think?

Personally, I like an off white with brushed or stainless steel hardware. I've never been a fan of dark cabinets in kitchens and natural woods are a little played. Whites and distressed are making a comeback in a huge way, too.

But, I definitely like those pics better than an oak or cherry kitchen.

Just a heads up on dark cabinets. We have them in our kitchen, and they totally show dust and any marks or stuff that gets on them. It drives me crazy everyday...never again will I have dark stuff in the kitchen. EVER!

YMMV of course.

I saw some of that stainless "look" vinyl wrap on DIY network the other day. That may look pretty awesome with the dark counter tops.

Thanks for that info! I just looked the site up its "applianceart.com" I may give it a try on my fridge.

The palms are a "Blue Mediterranean Fan Palm" Two of them are doing very well but one looks like its going to die. They are supposed to be cold weather palms, hopefully it pulls through

I'm digging the fence. I need to redo my fence this summer and this seems like a good cost effective solution. I have one question did you nail the horizontal boards to the back of the posts or are the board in the middle of the posts?

Thanks! Ya I think I'm going to add some trim to my current cabinets and re-paint them. I'm getting ready to re-do my flooring. Im going to go with slate tile.

question for you guys. I was doing some reading on how to get the old sub-floor out. I think i just need to take a circular saw and cut out the flooring as close as I can to the cabinets/walls. Then I just lay down the new cement backer board. Does that sound right?

So I'm going to be starting a new project here soon since its getting close to the grilling time of the year. The PO's of my house left a pile of prob 200+ of these retaining wall bricks in the back yard. I was doing some browsing of outdoor kitchens and saw people sometime use these bricks for the kitchen. I was just messing around with some of mine yesterday and started stacking em. Ill stagger them and cement the bricks down but it should be pretty cool. The local "chinese" granite place sells a slab thats 96inLX26inW for 90 bucks so I may use that for the tops of the "kitchen" Ill work on it a bit more this weekend. I have a mix of longer and shorter bricks.

I built a shelf to hold or PS3, Satellite box and receiver



I forgot I had a few boxes of tiles I bought a few years ago, I started mocking them up for back splash around the stove and window




I bought and built a new dresser from Ikea

Suggestion on the wiring hanging from your component shelf for your PS3 and Sat Box. Get some cable raceway similar to this LINK, and paint it to match the wall color. I have used this stuff to hide cabling where needed. Here is pic of some I recently installed when I moved my TV room around, again.....
