Ha um well I share the love but instead of sherman williams paint ,Im wire wheeling Tiny surface rust spots. The good I'm in Arizona and there is verry little moisture in the air.
Last but not least I seen(was going to the word saw) a few key spots where the rust Did not get to.So I got a easily buildable 77 runnig shell.Im the most happiest vw enthusiast In town.Oh yeah the only thing closest to my rabbit is a mid 80's caddy.

I went to traffic school,And going to get rid of more rust, then more primer.
I got the whole driver side quater panel (below the molding),and popped out a dent. Then painted primer in the dark.If the primer is not running you did not get enough primer on the car(rabbit).

    ...on my list...

    ---

I drove Bjorn to and from work, rocking out to my new stock head unit, that was until I hit a bump, and the FM antenna decided to make horrid noises for the rest of the day...

Also found out that my car runs about 100x better when it is oppressively hot out...upside?

Going to finish up my valve cover gasket (install old one with RTV since the new one I had someone order for me won't be here till Tuesday), add some oil, put the upper intake etc. all back on, and maybe get the rear coilovers dropped so I can take another look at the tops to see what is clanking.

I wanna drive the Rabbit tomorrow with the new suspension travel !!

Me a deereggs stared at the MK1 today and came up with a list of things we have to do to it.

Blasting the engine bay is top on the list.

Stopped to have a look at a 4 door diesel today with "not for sale" written on the windshield, it had a nice robin's nest with eggs on the dash

Finally got the brakes working on the Rabbit. Now it runs AND stops. A great combination, if I do say so myself.

  18. 05-18-2009 01:37 AM #158
ripped absolutely EVERYTHING off and out of the rabbit. organized, stored or trashed parts. took me six hours. now its time to pull the rear windows (hopefully without shattering it) and the windshield and then clean, sand, clean, sand, clean, acetone and PAINT!

See!!! even my parrot is excited about it!

Be pateint and take your time,or you can cut it out and replace it.For like 40 bucks.
http://www.germanautoparts.com I like you partner in restoring your rabbit. My friend had a cockatiel she would ride on the steering wheel, and manage to stay on top.
    Oh what rims are those?

yesterday I pushed the fallen lower bearing back up into the steering column and secured it in place with a hose clamp.

also, removed the plastic from the steering column and tightened that 6mm hex...it was totally loose.

significantly less play and noise from the steering now!

Set up the lap top on the passenger seat and made plans to give it a bath this afternoon.

I'm just going to cheat and break both windows. I need a new windshield as it is and the rear window isn't going to cost me anything.

Thanks for the source though. I may need a new windshield seal.

My partner's name is George. He's a 8 year old quaker parrot. Real smart but hates having to run around on the steering wheel. Just gives up and hops to my shoulder.

I have no clue what wheels they are but they're in decent shape and I'll be throwing them out. pay shipping and they're yours. I've got nice new powdercoated white snowflake replica 14" by 7"s that are going on.

Today I started attacking the rust bubbles at the bottom of the doors, around the wheel arches, and behind the side markers.

Shot the passenger door in flat black primer.. I like the way it looks, and I'm thinking about leaving the whole car flat for a while. About as bad ass as a cabby can look.

took mine out for it's first drive with new rollers...spent all that time looking for the perfect stance only to find myself having to raise it back up a tad because the axle was rubbing on the frame rail, and our streets here are less to be desired

..oh well...next project involves notching....I'm almost there

Ah yes, if you let it rub long enough it will self notch itself and you won't even have to get dirty

Nothing. Looked at it under the car cover. I've been waiting for 2 years for the proper title to my 1983 Rabbit Factory Turbo Diesel. Have over $2000 worth of parts to go in...but am not doing a thing, until the Connecticut owner forks over a proper title.

Ripped out the rear carpets, insulation, seats etc and got started wire brushing the surface rust. Surprising how little there was considering how wet it was back there. Got the shifter back bolted to the chassis. Gonna see if I can get some parts tomorrow to fix the huge oil leak I'm having, here's hoping.

Learned how to drive a car with a slipping clutch...

Also found out that there must be some kind of oil seal between the engine and the clutch that I was totally oblivious to...

I only drove my baby to work and back. But on Saturday I got my JOM coilovers in the mail from the UK cause for some reason there like $200 cheaper and only had time to put the fronts on and they really don't ride very bad for what I payed for them. Later this week I will install the rears but I'm kind of loving this rake.
