finished the non-repair prep, which is to say, sanded, cleaned and primed the rest of the car except for the dent. waiting to hear back from buddy on when i get my hammer kit and gun back.

Couldn't resist the urge to drive it any longer so fired it up and drove around the neighborhood a bit, then reparked it and threw the cover over it in case anyone called the cops on me.

Removed the front plastics and scrubbed all the moss out of the indicators and grill, then pounded out the dent in the bottom lip under the bumper and scrubbed out 30 years of dirt from the engine bay.

mounted headliner in the caddy that i redid to match the green EA carpet and seats. Ok fit for my first attempt at a headliner, but it's not a show vehicle, so I'm happy

still need to mount the interior light and such.

i don't have a press, so it cost me $40 to get both front wheel bearings pressed out.

had the bunny over a year and i've already replaced way more stuff than i even thought i could, and today i just payed a mechanic for the first time .

the kicker is he want's $40 more to press the new stuff back together.

one day i will have a press

edit: i shoped around, the other shop wanted $75 just to press um apart

not to be mean, but you got F'ed. i'd find a new shop.

i've taken spindles with my new bearings to shops before and they'd charge me like $30 or so to press my old bearings out and my new bearings in...hell i think even a dealer would do it for like around $40-$60 for the whole shooting match...it takes less than half an hour to knock it out.

sold minty. already found a new replacement.

Installed most of the remaining parts, then missed a step on the stairs and f*cked my ankle up. NOW I know why automatic transmissions are nice to have sometimes.

Got my gti running again, with cleaned out injectors, new o-rings, every gasket except head, block flush, rad flush, new water pump, regrounded all bay grounds.
I also made a sweet side exhaust, and a cool "ram air" all this past weekend.

fixed a major boost leak a few days ago
broke a clamp at my friend's house (friend with a compressor for leak testing) and had to get creative with 6 small worm gear clamps strung together
it held long enough to get me home

yesterday my hard steel diesel injection line for the #3 cylinder sprung a pinhole in traffic
i decided to have to towed home, i didn't feel like putting out an engine fire
picking up a new set today
