I'm going to post up another couple of videos in the next couple of days, but it's deeper and quieter. Also it doesn't drone at all.

Here are another couple of videos of the Magnaflow 14156 with stock system (including stock flapper)

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4434395

In the interests of full disclosure I've since removed it, fitted a different style of Magnaflow and removed the flapper...

Well I did this mod about 2 weeks ago. Finally got around to making videos of it. I switched from a custom magnaflow to this , and I love it 1000x better.

Check out the first two videos at http://www.flickr.com/josecabreraphoto

Once you get the new videos up can you post specifics on what you did aka part numbers, removing sound deadening, flapper mod, all that stuff. I know this will help alot of people out.

    thanks

Here goes again. I have too many requests so here is the info about this...

Only you need $90 small resonator and leave the OEM exhaust alone

Used the 14" res and cut it into 7". Anything else and its not the same.

Buying a 6 inch res will sound different.

    ....Will not disappoint

    It's 14" cut in half.

The resonator is 14” long Part Magnaflow # 10416 I had it cut in half

Sounds simple enough, but a lot of shops look at you like when you ask them if they'd do that for you to cut it in half.

  11. 08-20-2012 09:05 PM #47
I just got the part from Amazon. Any idea on how much a shop would typically charge for something like this

@tampa, WhaT kind of in cabin resonance are you getting with it? What rpm range is worst?

When you had it cuut down, how much of the packing did you have them keep? Half? All stuffed into the remaining half?

I spoke to a custom exhaust shop today and had a quck question. Did you gut the interior of the muffler or cut in half and weld it back.

I finally got the "tampa mod" done yesterday. Oh man.....what a difference in the sound. The best part is that you can keep the flapper valve mechanism. So you get the VR6 growl when the flapper is open and zero drone during highway speeds.

    Quick breakdown:

    Resonator: $49 (from amazon)
Labor: 192 (the resonator needs to be cut in half and the inside needs to be welded again. Also when installing, custom piping is needed as it is not a straight fit)

    Definitly worth the $

    Cheers..

I got rid of the packing that was cut out. Left the other half intact. The cabin resonance is none if you have the flapper. You will get some drone of you keep the flapper open all the time.

    Hope this helps

Guys, I have the "tampa mod" done too, but I'm thinking about doing my muffler now....I saw this and was thinking of cutting it down to size and fitting it in there (with a few appropriate bends of course). I cut my magnaflow and had my friend re-weld it pretty easily, but I've never had an oval muffler cut, wonder how well it will line back up

kinda like the muffler on this Magnaflow setup for the .:R

Im looking forward to doing this mod to my R32's OEM Exhaust along with some Magnaflow tips.

    Is the flex pipe necessary?
