Your site only lists 1 option for an 88 golf even though there are two. I hope you fix out some of your half year kinks before selling certain products. I called GAP and within about 1 minute the person was able to tell me how to find out what I needed with only looking at my VIN. First off, we always ask that you call (not post in a thread) if you have a question that requires a quick answer. The forums are great and we certainly try to get on the Vortex a few times a week (usually every day), but walk-in customers, telephone support, and our Order Admin will always take precedence over that of surfing forums. We have four (4) full-time reps available from 9AM to 7PM (CST) to take phone calls each and every day, Monday through Friday, and one (1) part-time rep working a few days a week, also capable of talking calls with questions like yours. We are a relatively small company (of just five), thus why we are only on the forums a few times a week.

Secondly, and most importantly, if another company simply tells you that you need an axle based on a VIN number (especially on a MK2), then they're certainly rolling the dice. MK2s, probably more than any VAG model, can be swapped with drivetrain components from anything from MK1s to MK4s (including 02A and 02J swaps), and things like hubs, axles, brakes, and such, are definitely a possibility. If the owner knew for a fact that his model has all original parts on it (i.e. the customer was the first owner), then yes, a VIN would solidify such a question. How many original owner MK2 guys do you know? The reason you were asked to measure your axles was to ensure you were sent the correct parts. I'm not sure how us asking you to confirm the correct fitment is considered an inconvenience, as this is to guarantee that you get the right part the first time, not to set back your project an extra few minutes while you obtain that info for us.

Lastly, we offer free shipping on Ground Orders as a convenience and "easy shopping" experience for our customer. You'd be the first, in close to a half decade in business, to say that our famous "free shipping" policy (which applies to 95% of our parts) was anything but awesome. Sorry you feel that knowing what you're going to pay for a part without having to "guess" on the shipping is an inconvenience. Also, the 90mm axles (per side) are $89.95 with free shipping. Their 90mm units are $92.50 plus shipping. The 100mm units (aftermarket brand) we offer are also around the same price. Neither are on our site, though, but are in stock. Not each and every part number or sku we stock is on the site, thus why THIS link is static placed on every page on our site.
