Thread: In car autocross video thread

Some regions have to deal with the space available. there's not much you can do on an out and back on a thin stretch like that.

I know all about working with what you've got, but that is a horrible layout to begin with. There's nothing wrong with the runway itself, but in working with what's available, you can only run tight, speed maintenance courses on that strip of pavement. The fact that you had a significant off is a bit of a red-flag, no?

It does seem much shorter when it is dry...we used the track again yesterday...close to the same course that is in the video except we ran it the other way. I ran a 78.3 on street tires - FTD was a 67 - Pro H-Stock ran it in 73.
Here is a video of a z.06 running the course from 5-9...this was 9/10s of a mile long. He ran a 78, compared to my 90

This was a fun course, and an example of what to do with a very limited space. We ran on the road course at Englishtown, and the back straight is very tight. As a result, there were no features there, as it was better to have a fast section with a hard shutdown going away from the wall than to have a feature that could risk someone stuffing it into the wall (though a few tried, as always).

True, but putting a hard maneuver like that after a fast entry just before the finish is ASKING for an accident.

PS....the driver was a bit behind coming into it

That is such a horrible course design. I probably would have asked for my money back after the first course walk.

And he was WAYYYYYY behind too....

I was a bit behind on that run, which was # 2, but run # 4 was good for fastest time of the day

      Hello,
What cameras are most of you using? Does anyone have opinions or experience with the "Motorsports Hero?" The latest version has a 5MP still camera (up from the previous 3MP).

I want to shoot some video, starting with face shots of my daughter riding shotgun. She got her first helmet last month.
      Thoughts?

the hero is ok, but really far from great. my video above is from a go pro hero, and while decent, doesn't offer more than any other camera.
my advice, get a great mount (panavise) and a regular point and shoot digicam.

Sony MiniDV camcorder. I picked it up when I thought I was going to be running a pro rally. At the time MiniDV was the only media they would take from in car cameras for broadcast, and having seen it on a TV I can see why. It is not up to HD standards, but it is definitely standard definition television broadcast quality. I picked up a discontinued store demo camera for about $100, and unlike newer cameras it has audio in. I never actually rigged it up, but the plan was to mic the exhausts, and pipe that into one of the stereo channels, and hook the intercom with noise canceling microphones into the other channel. that way I could remix the relative volumes later (all in car talking, all car sounds, or any combination).

I have 2 minidv camcorders and a nikon coolpix 7600 I use for various in car stuff. My one camcorder is a older canon that has both audio and video inputs . Now I just need to get a really nice bullet cam to external mount.
The hero's do make for some good shots, as long as you realize their limits, but the audio just isn't so good on them yet. I may pic one up because you can mount them on pretty much any fairly flat surface and they won't come off.
I want a newer canon hi def flash memory camcorder, just for the better image on a camera to use inside the car

      Here's a few from a while back:
Here's how NOT to do it - one of my "overdriven" runs from Calclub last year:

And here kinda how to do it - my 5th place run from Dubfest last year:

That's pretty cool. Although being a road-course with cone-gates reminds me a LOT of Project Gotham on X-Box...
The finish seems a bit scary... with how you're running full-speed towards the start line.
I forgot to look at how long the course I ran at CBP last week was... although the odometer/speedo in my car isn't accurate... it was pretty long, though... fast times were in the upper 60's.

Thanks for the input, guys! While I would like to eventually get a better video camera for general use, I did opt to buy the Motorsports Hero. The site claims the new 5MP camera has improved audio and video. We shall see. I went for the Hero for two reasons:
      1) Is small, shoots 5MP still photos as well as video, and it already comes with everything I need for mounting to the car/helmet/interior; and
      2) I accidentally got a decent discount... a Hero with 2GB card shipped to my door for $177.
You might be able to get the discount on purpose. Check this out - Visit the site at http://www.goprocamera.com/ and add a camera with 2MB memory card to your cart. Fill in all of the info needed to place an order, particularly your e-mail address. Continue on to the payment page, but don't fill in your CC info. Instead, either navigate to another site or close the window. I received an e-mail within the hour inticing me to complete my order with a 10% discount and free shipping, a savings of ~$34.
The Hero was a tough toy to pass up at that price. I'll be sure to shoot some video at my June autocross event and post it here.
      Take Care,
      Scott

My Solo Vee camera crapped out last weekend. But my wife got a good video of her best run in her Solstice GXP. 2nd in AS. She is really getting the hang of it!

More "on-car" rather than "in-car" video.
Bumper cam, day 1 Finger Lakes National Tour.
Just ffwd through the first minute or so, the go-pro doesn't have a remote, and I don't have a video editor.

      Hey,
I finally got to make some recordings with the Motorsports Hero I mentioned. My 11-MB compilation of videos can be downloaded HERE. CLICK HERE if you're really adventurous and want to DL all five of the video clips (55-MB file).
      Later,
      Scott

      Hello,
I decided to add some music and photos to my video and make a late Father's Day memory (the event was on Father's Day). I think it turned out pretty good. CHECK IT OUT (13-MB).
      Later,
      Scott

3 speeds are better than no speeds. I LOVE 010 AUTO TRANSMISSIONS!!

If you need ANYTHING from China, let me know. I'm not talking about door handles. I'm talking containers of anything made there. I can cut out all the middlemen.

Not the best video, but good for a cheap camera and mount
