ive been calling body shops asking for a professional rust job on my hood, but most will not warantee the work!

I hope you're joking. What shop owner in their right mind would warranty a rust job? What kind of warranty would he give you? "5 years against perforation. If your paint comes back I'll rust is again!"

And no, clear won't hold on rust. It won't even hold on rust free bare metal.

it's never run I can rub the crap out of it and it doesn't come off. the only time it will run is when you first start to rust it just take the hood off for a while let it get nice and rusty then put it back on
and por 15 makes a clear that will hold on rust

in reality, you'll probably never see an all over rusty boser. it's a weld on extension. it would be hundreds of hours in metal work to get it to look like a smooth transition. from then on you have to decide if you'd really want your hundreds of hours rusting away.

    hundreds of hours?

    hundreds of hours?

maybe a bit of a high number, but in reality, i've seen people get old beat trucks that they want all metal (no fillers) take 100hrs per panel to get straight and smooth. difference is, they aren't trying to hammer the variations out of a weld. you would weld, grind, weld, grind, weld, grind, etc. trying to get all the little pits and imperfections out. you'd have to be an extremely good metal fabricator to pull it off.

hey man so im into the rusty hood too. i know how to rust it i just dont know how to get rid of the paint on my hood. i tried a metal brush and it just scratched the hell out of it. i tried a scraper and it only scratched, it didnt get under the paint.

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE PAINT AND GET TO THE BARE METAL?

-I have a hood at home that was keyed pretty bad, it's dented to so; perfect to try this out..

The paint was fairly easy to strip. I used some "heavy paint and varnish remover" (the gel), a putty knife, and then a razor blade for the little stuff left over.

I'm at the part where I need to chose how I'm going to get the hood to rust evenly... and hopefully!ending up looking like this mk3's hood http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...Thread/page477 (scroll down)
Anybody find out a good way to do this???

My hood after stripping off the paint:

you can clearly see where it got keyed!^^^

    -Tried a mix of water/sea salt/hydro-peroxide
-Sprayed a layer on the hood every 5-10 minutes

    Result:

It does look promising.. but there's obviously no way that this is all there is to it.

was thinking about it, the same way you can "antique" firearms using wet coffee grounds. put a layer on a spot let it sit for a bit. don't know for sure if it will work but worth a shot

Take a bunch of nails put them in water for a few days, filter out the rust and mix with aluminum shavings( from machine shop) and magnesium shavings put it all over your hood and light it on fire with a small torch (like camping propane torch at wal mart)

Be sure the hood is still on the car
