Quick question: How much trouble would I have using a 245/40/18 or 245/35/18 tire on an 18x8 ET 45 wheel (OEM B6 S4 wheel)? I'm running slightly lower on Bilstein PSS9 coilovers. I know pretty much anything is possible, but can this setup be accomplished without rolling the fenders or using camber plates?

245/35 and you won't have any probs... just take out the fender screw.

no fender mods required

all depends on the tire. but the basic physics are more contact patch = more friction = more noise = more vibration.

but i didn't notice much because my 225/40s were hankooks and they were pretty bad to begin with.

when i put the steelies on with the 205/55s its like a nice quiet cloud in comparison

Fair enough. I have to imagine any new tire worth a crap is going to be quieter than my horribly cupped stock bridgestones. They blow.

I am more wondering about the difference in height than the width. A shorter tire will typically have worse ride quality.
rough math:
225 x .40 = 90
245 x .35 = 85.75
255 x .35 = 89.25

255-35 is closest in height to a 225-40, but the 245-35 is not waaaay off.

edit:
Here’s Dan GSRs math, not mine
225/40 (18) = 25.08 in diameter
245/35 (18) = 24.75 in diameter
255/35 (18) = 25.02 in diameter

245/35 is the same O.D. as a 215/40... which is what most people run on aftermarket wheels here anyways.

Bueller..... I am pretty sure you can go 235/40 just from visually looking at mine. Maybe you have to do that fender screw removal that all the slammed car people talk about.

I'm still not sure on what I'm going to get. I'm leaning more towards 18x8. I would like to see what a 245-35 looks like on that.

I'm pretty sure my 944 wheels were 8" wide and I had 245s on the rear. I miss that car...fun times.

What tires are people actually running that are 245/35/18? Direzza Star Specs are only available in 245/40, same with the Falken Azenis RT-615. What's a good summer performance tire for this size?

i've ran p-zero rosso which i did not like at all... now i have yokohama s. drives which i like a lot (great wet/dry) .... we have a lot of standing water here in WA on the freeway and they do pretty well.

Hahaha yep I have. Road construction is everywhere... what sort of construction is the question.

New road construction and widening and stuff is no biggie. Try living somewhere that gets feet of snow and then you will truly know the meaning of bad roads. I loathe potholes! Between the extreme winter/summer temp swings and plow trucks, snowy winters DESTROY roads.

Best price I can find seems to be about $150. Was hoping for closer to a bill.

255/35 is betAR than all

and i doubt there is anything priced below $150... you might be able to find some weird brand on ebay or used... but its not really worth it

I'm really bad at offset math... Would 18x8.5 ET42 be better or worse for running wide 245/35s? With H&R Race springs? I'm trying to get myself psyched up for the RML snowflake reps, and if ET42 works, that helps make up my mind.
