I'm not talking V8 swaps or rotary swaps etc, but more along the lines of Volvo Turbo motors and such. Or do the stock motors take to turbocharging well?
I'd love to find a 1991-ish 240 and have my way with it

they made 240's with factory turbos up until some time in the 80's, so yeah they take turbos well. they also made a 16v dual cam head thats supposed to be pretty wicked. check out the forums and articles at turbobricks.com, tons of info there

They do take to boost well. You can swap in a Turbo motor like whats in my car, or turbocharge an N/A motor fairly easy just from parts off of a turbo car at the local Junk Yard. The only real hard part is making the oil return line for the turbo. The N/A motors also have a higher compression than the factory turbo ones. So its a bit easier to get power out of a +t'd car. They also made factory turbocharged 240's from 1981-1985.

2.1L 4-cylinder with turbo from 1981-1985. Beginning mid 1984, an intercooler was added. The earlier non-intercooled version made 127hp, while the intercooled version made 155hp.

While those horsepower numbers seem measly today, contemporary non-turbo 4-cylinder engines made 90hp to 110hp. In 1982, the Camaro, which weighed as much as or more than a Volvo 200-series car, came with engines ranging from a 90hp 4-cylinder engine to a 145hp 8-cylinder engine.

Oh, and you can turbocharge your stock engine no problem, too. They call that the "+T" conversion.

The T5 swap is like the white whale of RWD Volvo swaps. I know someone from Sweden had one on there. Those guys are the masters of Volvo swaps, not surprisingly.

      Here's an in-progress swap of a T5 into a 740. I'll see if I can find the 240 swap I saw-

From 1982 to 1985 the 245 Turbo was the worlds fastest production station wagon, which then was dethroned by the 745 Turbo in 1986. Its fun telling people I own the sedan version of the worlds fastest station wagon from the 80's.
