      Deal!

So I took the plunge on some new gear today.

Got a Redington 5wt fly rod combo. It seemed like a good starter kit to see if I'll really like the fly fishing.

Then grabbed a new baitcaster as well. I've been meaning to get something a while now and this one was on a super sale, and well, I'm cheap Quantum KVD 100Ppt 5:1:1 Hopefully this does the trick for me.

Then of course I needed some new muskie lures

does anyone here have a minn kota trolling motor with the ipilot? i couldnt be any closer to picking 1 up for myself but i need a little more to push me over the edge and bring out the credit card $1500 is a lot for a tiny little motor, but i think it's still cheaper than having a girlfriend/wife

Spent $83 on lures and a CRKT knife. Bought some Rapala's, some blue fox vibrax's, and some rooster tails. Need to get some blue fox spinning minnows.

Going to replace the Powerdrive 65ftlb bowmount on my Lund with a 24v Terrova (or similar) the i-Pilot is killer! But yeah, I get ya when you talk about dropping $1500 on a trolling motor, lol!

I'd buy the I-Pilot just for the fact that if I hit a button it will keep me in a stationary position via GPS fix.. There are so many circumstances where I could have used that feature in the past, lol.

      Sunday:

Woke up around 3am, made coffee, got my gear all packed up in my Jeep, out the door by 3:45am headed to the Snake River in search of Steelhead. Got to the section I wanted to start at and threw out my first cast of the day right at first light. Maybe an hour and a half later i got two hard hits and watched my bobber disappear under the water, went to set up on it and lost them both. Damn.

About two hours later about a hundred yards further down, third or forth cast out another slamming hit, bobber down, set hook, FISH ON! fought it for about ten minutes, which felt like an eternity.

finally got it up close to the bank, tailed it, removed my single barbless from its mouth, got out my tape measure quickly and it measured out to 38" in length x 18" in girth. The big guy was still thrashing a bit so I released it quickly as possible after get my measurements. My biggest fish ever!

It was a native so it was released without removing it from the water or putting it in my net. Off it swam in a hurry away from me to go make more and do its thing. I fished for another 30 minutes or so and left with a huge sh*t eating grin. my estimation is it was roughly 15-16lbs. What a day!!!

yeah i hear ya. i could use that feature every day when i go out and fish below a nearby spillway. it's not hard to control the boat while i fish it, but when i'm trying to release a fish it can get a little hairy since 100 yards down current is a bridge, heh.

Amsterdam: congrats on the fish, i've never seen a steelhead that big!

Can it be April already? Been cleaning my gear and organizing my tackle box. Really feel like buying a new reel/rod even tho it is completely unnecessary

I think you'll probably love flyfishing!

Try to find someone with experience to show you some basic casts. Starting out can be very frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, your flyrod may be the first rod you grab whenever you go fishing.

And if you do fall in love with flyfishing, go out and splurge on a high-quality rod. You'll be amazed at how different it is from the entry-level rods.

Well I've actually fly fished before but for salmon out in Newfoundland and loved it. But... that was 5 or 6 years ago now so hopefully it all comes back pretty quick
