I've been stopping at this creek for the last little while either on my way to work or coming home (depends what shift I'm on). I've moved a few fish, either had them follow me up or missed them. Yesterday on the way in I decided to stop again and it paid off. On the second cast I had a fish miss the lure almost at the end of my retrieve and it must have moved to the other side of the pool. I moved down the opposite way to try my luck as I've moved fish down there before but no luck and then back down to the same spot again with no luck so I moved down the other direction and it paid off.

That thing is a monster. Here's a couple pics from this summer I'll throw up.

And maybe someone can clarify. I think the below is a pike, but others are saying muskie..
it was caught in a pitch black river (called the Black River)

Not sure if you've seen this, but MNR species map is pretty detailed:

    Here's a not-so-small smallie:

Dinner from a stocked lake (don't keep the wild ones)

Now we're just waiting for the salmon to start their trip upriver from Superior. Praying for some rain...

That's awesome. My river is just at the north end of Couchiching on the Green/Black Rivers. So muskie 'could' make it up there.. I've only caught pike though

Looks to me like a poorly colored pike or possibly a hybrid.

I was out on Simcoe on Friday. Piled up the perch in 12 feet of water. Brought home 20.

Esso at Pt. Union and Kingston Rd. got me for $305.00 though. It f.cking hurt.

Im just getting into fishing this year, I found a hobby that involves my two favorite things and is way cheaper than mountain biking.

i am definitely a beginner when it comes to fishing. i havent been in ~10 years

i am looking to go somewhere quiet to fish in the GTA and surrounding areas.
can someone suggest a lake or pond or river where there isnt a lot of people around so i can get back in to the grove of things?

i dont have any equipment yet so any suggestions welcome

Well, depends on where you are in Toronto. I noticed that it's really quiet around Toronto island. If you got yourself a canoe (or rented one on the island) you could probably haul in some decent bass.

it doesnt really matter where in the GTA, i'd even drive an hour out of downtown. i would prefer to fish from the shore as opposed to a canoe or boat

does anyone know a good place to get some basic information about stating off. types or rods and waht kind of fish they are geared for, bait, tackle, and so on?

  21. 04-09-2012 12:36 PM #231
You can definitely shore fish from the Island. Also all along the pier on the land side.

Well I think it depends on how much you want to spend. You can get rod/reel combos for less than $100 or you can easily spend $500+ (which I probably would advise against if you're starting out)

Bait is really personal preference. I prefer crank baits for bass/pike as well as spinners and spoons. Soft baits on hooks work well too. You pretty much just have to find a few baits that you like to use and go from there.

Hey if you can head down east try the rouge river at the end of Lawrence rd east.. If you dont mind what you catch there are alot of hudge carp swiming arround and will go for anyhing off the bottom..
However there are a few pike to be caught out there as well...

Got out the other day. Still lots of perch on Simcoe. Had to sort through a pile of little ones but we got a dozen together.

Truck and boat need a wash.

Southern shore of Lake O is heating up boys! Got the Lund out on the big lake for the first time, got my Yamaha T8 High thrust kicker installed along with a TrollMaster Pro2.. Scotty 1106's worked awesome as well! Got 8 fish to the boat, 4 kings, 2 lakers and 2 cohos.. nothing giant, but it was great to get out. Simcoe perchin' is next!

How does the troll master work? I've thought about installing one but I only really use the kicker in the fall on Quinte and a bit up in the Timmins area. I may put a power pole or talon on the other side. For my fishing style it'll get more use.
    Can't beat a Lund.

Shore fishing? Jacksons point should be holding some good perch right now. Get there early though.

The TrollMaster kit comes with a small electric actuator that you install inside the cowl and attach to the throttle linkage of the kicker.. It's basically a potentiometer... All I do is start the motor (electric start) put it in gear then I can control the throttle from upfront without need another set of controls.. The dial goes from 0-250 (250 being WOT) so you can dial in the perfect trolling speed for pretty much anything.. Should be great for walleyes as well..

And you're right, you can't beat a Lund.. This boat handled that rough water like it was nothing.. Too many people are hung up on hull thickness and not worried about hull design.. Lund killed it with the IPS hull.. I've never been in a boat that gets on plane so fast with so little throttle input...

I keep forgetting we've got an Ontario fishing thread as well

One from a month or so ago...

Did a float a few days ago down a local Ontario trib. Horrible conditions (blue bird, sunny) but got this guy to play.

Biggest on the trip was 47in, I lost one well over 50in, the reason why my St.Croix Avid is now a two piece and off for a warranty replacement, lol!
