These two are worth their weight in gold for doing trim.. maybe cheap HF stuff, but they work great:
We bought a cheapo router table to mount the router in, and it wouldn't cut a straight line, so it went back, and we made a ghetto router table:
Here it is hung up:
Some light green paint on the trim- this went on the shelf in the bathroom too.
and the door primed up with Kilz.. **** goes on so blotchy. Probably end up doing this the same color as the walls so its not a sea of green when it's closed

Pocket doors are where it's at; I have my eye on one for a bath remodel in my house. They just save so much space, and make layouts possible that wouldn't otherwise be. Looking good everywhere else, too - slow or not, whatever you're doing is clearly working.
#395
I have one in my bathroom. I'm going to be adding another for my guest bedroom.
My only gripe about my pocket door is that some guests don't open it all the way when they're done with the bathroom. My bathroom is 5' wide so it's a 2'3" opening. If I'm not paying attention, I slam into the mostly opened door. As part of the remodel, I'm getting the bathroom door opening as close to 2'6" as possible.

Wow, just realized I haven't updated this in a couple months.. It's still going slow, but we got a few more things done:
We did the tile in the upstairs bathroom:
had to lay it out on the floor to get the layout of the tiles right before we started slinging adhesive on the walls. Artie was supervising the operation
We put down some more of the peel and stick tile upstairs, but we used actual adhesive this time since some of the corners are a pain in the ass to keep down since they don't like to spray the adhesive right out to the corners for some reason
Had to pop the stairs out to do the tile underneath. Going to pull the steps off and put actual stair treads down after
Here's some of the glue down
it actually took a bit longer than we expected
The sink cabinets downstairs are mounted to the walls, sink is glued down, and we made a quick tile counter on the other side
had to jerry rig the plumbing through the cabinet since we planned on using a 48" cabinet, but instead got two 24".. the sides were right between the hot and cold lines. It's all blocked up and clipped down now though
And here it is with the mirror up. Still have to install the ****ter, and hook the lines up in the basement, but it's pretty much done

We got some new toys:
The stairs are cut and poly'ed, just haven't nailed them down yet.. don't have any pics of what they look like now. This is a couple just slapped on there for a pic-
And my laminate flooring showed up.. all 2240lbs of it
That probably won't be going in for a few weeks or so.. got some painting to do upstairs (to fix ceiling, etc), and doing some transmission work next weekend

Ok, been a while since I've updated this. Since the last update, a few things have gotten done
The walls upstairs are no longer white..It needed some color. 3 walls are beige / tan-ish colored, and the bathroom side is mother****in orange:
The tile is down in the bathroom upstairs..
don't see this too often- From Home Depot no less
First we put down this styrofoam uncoupler matting
seems I forgot to get a pic of it grouted, but here's the tile down:
All the water is connected in the basement now for the addition. We cut out the old portions of galvanized pipe, and replaced with pex, as well as cut out a rats nest of copper, and the lines to the washer, and simplified it all. 3/4" feeds instead of 1/2" now
The bathroom / laundry room downstairs is fully functional now
Going to start on the floor upstairs soon most likely. Also ordered some Racedeck for the garage.. ditching the epoxy idea since this will be easier to complete, and it will also be better to stand on for long periods of time

The floor upstairs is started, looking pretty good so far. It's "Rosewood" style laminate, 1/2" thick, AC4 rated and the joints are all waxed to limit moisture absorbtion

The floor upstairs is done, but I forgot to take a picture of it. Still have to mop it down to get all the dust up.. looks like crap in the pics
We had to get all redneck and use a morgan knocker to fix a loose board a few rows back that we had missed. I bought one of them S hooks that you hit with a hammer, but since we put the radiators up first, it was a bit close to the top of the wood to get the hook in there easily. The morgan knocker / slide hammer end slid right in there, and worked awesome since it weighs like 15 pounds. It popped them things together like nothing
Cutting a slight notch in the end of a board to go around something on the old 1939 delta bandsaw:
We havent touched the Racedeck for the garage yet.. I wanted to do it last weekend, but ended up doing other things. I'm hoping for this weekend though, and I'll try to remember to mop the floor upstairs and get a finished pic that isnt all dusty footprints

Good stuff.
I put in ~6-700 sqft of hardwood in our house couple years back. Woulda loved to have one of those bandsaws handy. Instead I made do with a handheld jigsaw and a lot of creative clamping. That slide hammer looks like it did the trick too.
I wish I'd taken a little bit more time and made the seams tighter on our install. But it is way better than the crappy wall-to-wall we had in there before. Wood looks the balls when done.

Nice updates.
When I was installing my hot water heater, I though i read somewhere they don't recommend hooking up PEX directly to the tank. it might be a brand thing, but looks good regardless.![]()
#406
Actually I think that applies only to gas water heaters.. they don't want the pex near the exhaust because of the heat. That one we have isn't really a water heater anyways, it's a triangle tube phaseIII storage tank, and has zone off of the viessmann boiler that runs through a coil to heat the water in the tank, instead of it having its own gas or electric heater setup

floor is vacuumed, but we still need to run a mop over it. It's hard to get a decent picture up there with all the glare from the windows having no blinds on them

We started our Racedeck install today.. If the garage was clean and empty, it would have taken a couple hours, but it was dusty, full of sawdust, and we had to move a whole bunch of crap, so we only got half of it done today
We put down landscape fabric to try and take some of the clackety clack noise.
section in front of one door started.. sorry for the quality, iphone sucks for pics if the light isnt just right
Now we're gettin somewhere
Here's where we ended it.. just over half done. Gotta move all the heavy stuff to do the rest
We moved the toolbox over onto the new tiles so we can start in its spot tomorrow. Ended up using a piece of 1/4" plywood to make a ramp.. it went easier than I expected, considering the weight
I left the back 3 feet of the garage all black, as it's going to have 3ft wide pallet rack all the way across once we get everything finished up
It looks even better with a car on it!

The Racedeck is finally all done. Had to move a bunch of stuff today to do the other side, as well as do under the lift.
We ended up getting some 3/4" pieces of plywood, and putting it under the casters on the lift to get a bit more height so I could place tiles under the posts without actually moving the lift
Sliced the landscape fabric to go around the wheel so I could get it flat, then put the tiles down
The edge tiles were all cut on the delta bandsaw, and it made an incredible mess! LOL.. I had jiblets of plastic everywhere, but it cut nice
All done.. everything is just stuffed out of the way at the moment until we get the pallet racking in there, then it'll all be moved
It looks awesome, just glad the install is done.. Actually, the install of the tiles themselves isn't bad at all, and goes fairly quickly, its just the shuffling around of all the **** in the garage that makes alot of work. I gotta get my buddy to take some pics of it with a wide angle lens so you can see it all in one shot

I am wondering would it have been safer to leave the lift bolted into the concrete floor instead of putting it on top of the tiles? Awsome build by the way. I am jealous.

It wasn't bolted down to the concrete. 4 post lifts don't have to be bolted down to be used like a 2 post does. The Racedeck tiles have very high load ratings, so they won't collapse under the weight. I think they have like a 45k rolling weight rating, and the lift is only rated for 9k, and the load is spread out on 4 posts

There is a full second floor living space above the garage with 11 ft vaulted ceiling,a 900 sq.ft. loft, The connector between the garage/loft/house is the new entry way and has a downstairs bathroom/laundry with a stairway to the second floor and entry into the existing house. And the second floor part has the stairway to the loft because of the floor height difference between the old and new. It also will house our new server closet.

We got a few things done over the long weekend..
Hung the medicine cabinet upstairs. I only got one pic, was in a hurry to get out of there, it was hot since it was 90deg outside
We shuffled a bunch of stuff around in the old garage so that we could start dragging out the cabinets to put in the new garage. The blue 2 door cabinet came over, and we banged out the bottom a bit since it was all tweaked from people dragging it all over before we got it. Had an idea to make a frame with some 2x4's to stiffen it up
Then we sanded it down, and threw a coat of rustoleum safety red enamel on it with a roller. It came out fairly lumpy, but it's flattening as it dries. I have a feeling it's still going to be fairly lumpy when it's done though, but it'll do fine
It still needs a 2nd coat, and the areas around the hinges and inside the openings need to be painted
Then we got bored, and moved some more stuff in the old garage to start getting the pallet racking out. To get to the uprights, we had to move 40 crossbeams, and 40 pieces of wire decking to get to them. In a moment of brilliance, I thought to take the 7ft tall pieces that we cut from the uprights (which were 18ft when we got them), and setup a temporary rack to stack all the other pieces on
We had already moved the crossbeams, and there were 3 piles of these wire decking. Those pieces standing up are the 7ft cutoffs we kept, and the pieces laying down are 11'6"
darkk and the pile of **** we had just moved onto the temp rack
We moved the sandblasting cabinet afterwords
The crossbars and shelves are going to get moved, just there now to keep it together so we could see how it fit
It's gonna go all the way across the garage one we're done with it, but we're going to have to chop the crossbeams on the last set to make it fit properly

Waz wrong wit dat?!
Building a garage big enough to park kenworth's in next to my split-level 5' from the curb seemed like such a great idea at the time.
As much as I bitch about BS zoning and building code rules... there is a time and a place.
